Are you a random digger or do you know what your looking for

I'm a random digger. I go through different genres in the shops and just pick up a couple from each pile. If I want some classical I know what to avoid (overused samples) the same goes with other genres, but generally I just pick and hope.

The stores I go to I can pick up 12" for 50p - £1, so it's not a huge loss and most the time I can make something from at least a small sample from the vinyl.

Do you dig with something in mind or just go out and hit and hope?

I'm guessing create digging is a talent in itself and once you get to know labels and artists you know what to avoid.

My digging involves audio hijack and spotify, does that count?

Im a bit of both, when the expos come around I have a little list of sh*t that Im a looking for but other than that just roll up the sleeves, roll up a blunt and get to work

well I used to do random digging and picking things that I guessed might have something on it but I dont know really what the record is because of it being written in foreign languages and stuff like that...

however more recently there was a band who I liked because of the brass section they had in it so I used wikipedia to find out who those musicians were with the goal of finding other bands they may have been in... anyways so I got a hold of some of that other band's music and then wound up back on wikipedia because I liked their drummer. It's like a big chain almost.. haha and it never ends!

so I guess it's a bit of both.

sometimes i find shit by an artist i know is good, or like a known break record, then half the time i just take chances on random joints .. but those chances are often the most rewarding.

I think it's good to know what kind of sample you want to find... if you want drums or you want violin... maybe looking into musicians who you know are amazing is a good plan... check online for what bands they were in, or what stuff they featured on. listen to it, if it is good you might have found something. if it is not, maybe you found something else you could use.

it's kind of like hip hop music producers... if you like premeir, you wont stop at gangstarr albums.

I always pick up stacks of records for cheap at garage sales and thrift stores. When I dig in store I usually just amass my collection of jazz and funk

I think as a digger ur a musiclover first, I would say that most important factor of diggin for so called 'gold'. But to answer your question I do both, sometimes I go by covers, the other time I go by the recordlabel, sometimes just because something sparks ur interest.

I just go off my gut and hope for the best..... But I think almost every record has something that can be used. Just need to get creative.
