Right Now, I'm stuck between the 4000 and kurzweil k2661. I'm leaning more towards the kurzweil cuz its a great sound shaper and also comes with sounds as opposed to the 4000 needing sounds. They're about the same price but just wanted to get some opinions from ya'll. I've also heard kurzweil is a little complicated to get into. All help is appreciated.

I am a huge fan of both of these lines. I was working on the original K2000 with computer sequencing back in the day.

Yes, the Kurtzweil kicks a$$, but not in the sequencing dept.
Matter of fact, IMHO, all keyboards have HORRIBLE sequencers.
With work and annoyance, you will be able to pull off most of the same stuff, but nothing beats an MPC for hardware sequencing. And yes, the
Kurtzweil had a rediculously steep learning curve. But put it this way, if you can program one, you will never have a problem with any other keyboard.

But that leads to more questions. One is, do you have a computer, and if so, what type and speed. If you sequence w/ the computer, you can just get the K2661. But then I would say, if you have a fast mac or something, then Kontakt 2 is a way better sampler AND sound library than the K2661, and as a matter of fact, can read all the libraries that Kurtzweil and Akai make, as well as any other. And if you do have a blazing fast computer, then get a 2000XL or 2500 for the sequencer and buy Kontakt and a bunch of sound library DVDs. If you can actually play the keyboard, but don't have a Mac, I would get the K2661. At least you won't sound like every one else!

...Come to think of it, all keyboards do have sh!tty sequencers...

...even the great ones... :?

I was hyped about the Oasys, until I found out it was only 192 ppq :? , and only 32 tracks...wtf??

Kurzweil products are truly genius level sh!t as far as sound design goes, and every component is high-quality, but it's sequencer looks like liver & onions when compared to the MPC 4k's, IMHO...

Grab the 4000...you'll like it.

You're right, that's a better way to put it.
I think what I was trying to get accross is, if you can afford
a hooped out keyboard station or a 4000, you could get a
pretty fast mac, protools and Kontakt 2, and be able to do
way more. But no, you won't have the dope controller, etc.
apples and oranges.

I am on the verge of getting a k2661 right now.
Anyone who uses the sequencer? I like the 780ppqn. Also having keys under your fingertips together with the sequencer is very attractive.

So what is the sequencer like? Is it simple, record your playing, and sequence it?

Geez...somebody's been doing a little grave digg'n lately (lol). Anyway, I own the kurz k2500 and the 4k but the 4k seems to hold more data that the kurz. Soundwise, the kurz may have better sounding sounds due to the v.a.s.t. architecture it uses.

But overall, I'd go with the 4k, but have a kurz waiting on the side.

^^^
Sounds like you need a synth with presets, not a sampler/sequencer...

if you want a bad ass sequencer, check this:

And pair it with one of these:

Done, and done.
