can you use an MPC 1000 as a controller for ableton live?

can you assign the pads and sliders to control ableton live 8?

i think there is a way but you need more than the USB cable.
you need the midi cable

I know this should be dead simple, I'm in the same position can anybody help? Trust I've looked on this site and beyond, everything I find involves more complicated setups with keys etc and nobody has a definite answer. All I'm trying to do is have the pads on the 1000 control chops and drums etc on ableton live as if they were pads on a m-audio axiom or a mpk49 etc.. I know the 1000 is an older piece of equipment but can anybody say for sure that it can or can't work like this? - PC running Ableton Live 8

Does anybody know if this is even possible? I've just started getting into ableton and don't want to buy a controller since I already have a MP. Also using the computer keyboard sucks. I'm surprised at how little information there is about this online, a few people talking about matching tempos and syncing them up to record each other, it's not what I'm after, just wanting a control surface. If it can't be done then thats cool I'll stick to the MPC cos I'm not trying to use a PC keyboard or buy a MPD... anybody got any advice? Please?

i got the answer to your question with 1 google search. it took about 20 seconds. ...and i don't even use Live.

try it yourself. try searching for something like... oh i don't know... maybe "mpc control of ableton live".

OK maybe I shouldn't have asked "is this even possible" because it looks like it totally is. There are people out there doing this I just can't seem to get it to work, I must be missing something, I just asked that out of frustration.
You don't even use Live? Well then don't waste my time by responding, of course I have used google that was the first thing I did, I've found plenty of info about setting them up but for some reason I just can't get my pads to register when I'm midi-mapping. I'm really looking for a live/mpc user who has had success with a similar setup to mine to help me out, not somebody who doesn't even have live and knows how to use google. C'mon man.

I'm gonna keep working on it, I have live recognising the MP but I just can't midi-map the pads, or q-links for that matter.

I don't have a MPC1000 so I'm not sure about the Q link knobs... but if they're anything the MPK (which I assume they are) then this should work for you.

In the upper right hand corner of the Ableton screen it says "MIDI". Click it. That should change definable parameters to purple. Click on the parameter you'd like to assign (for instance, a live clip). Then hit the pad you'd like to launch said clip. If all went well you'd see the pad info on the parameter (clip).

Same principle applies to knobs.

Em.p.cee.j - thanks bro, except I know how to midi-map, but when i tap the pads its like im not doing anything... must be my configuration or maybe my midisonic device is the wrong tool for the job. it's cool, i'll keep at it, but yeah if anybody out there has a 1k and live rigged up via a usb midi interface.. get at me! i'm pulling my hair out! thanks for taking the time to respond tho man I appreciate any and all snippets of info. peace

Are you setting the MPC to a MIDI 1a/1b or whatever?

It won't send MIDI data unless you specify a midi output.

Wow I finally got it! Live had given me two options for Midi Input, one was MidiSonic 2x2, one was Midisonic Input1 or something. I had it on the second one the whole time thinking it was better to specify the input, but when I switched it to straight Midi Sonic 2x2 it worked! Also had to set all three settings to on: track, sync, and remote, and it is all good. This is going to make Ableton a lot more fun. Thanks for the suggestions guys
