battery, that's what i was forgetting. yeah doesn't that one come with gigs of drums? i know a lot of reaper folks swear by battery.

arebee, it's a PC vst, i havent heard mac plans.

battery has very sweet adsr, pitch , vol, curves, but lacks sexy filters, theyre a bit thin. battery2 was an improvement overall. a bit slicker sounding.

but very flexible feeling to the cells (sample) layout, and tight response for a home computer.

Can battery do the "random cycle" "round robin" thing?

no

its designed with less random than that, for the more decided of programmers.

ensoniq eps/asr, now thats a nice round robin sampler. FZ1/10m does that nicely too.

i don't dig the use of round robin or random cycle for most applications. except for extremely similar "takes" of the same oneshot without much tonal difference - then it's nice for taking some of the legwork out of creating variety. unfortunately the odds of having THAT many oneshots is rare unless you either paid for them or recorded them yourself - and if it was the latter, you might as well just DIY and not use round robin/cycle to begin with.

a cool function with some creative uses when used atypically but i dunno. not for my style.

another thing about using poise for drum layers - as often as i've said "know wat you're looking for before you stop playback and enter your HD to look for layers," it's so nice to not have to stop playback while playing the different drum samples on your DAW to find a nice layer.

Ixnay on the ensoniqs doing the round robin thang. the eps was the first piece of gear I ever owned and I know it and every incarnation of it inside out. I'm sure it doesn't have this function.

yeah - when its 6 aux outs are available, the out of a wave inst could be routed via each one automatically through the FX bus, and would give u 3 stereo variants : dry, fx1, then fx2, then dry again etc....

not as crazy as the FZ, with 8 sep outs cycling, but it was put to good use on many of my trax.

No I mean where you set up some layers and each time you trigger that pad, (midi note number.) it switches to the next sample in the layer or randomly to a different sample on the layer. Poise has this, does battery?

ah sorry - right - round robin, hhhmmm, i thought it was a stupid name.

cant remember if battery does that, not sure its laid out like that, the cells are a bit different to a typical keygroup/layer scenario.

jj should be able to put "random layer" into the OS. i wish they would.

or LFO to layer would be nice, like oscillating through, one layer to the next in succession - a 3 way layer fade, using all those diff wavetypes (random,sine,saw etc...)

Just for the record, though, battery does do round robin.
