The ASR recognizes only SCSI ID 5. Besides that, you may well need to use a fresh copy of the same OS for the machine to see the drive.

DAMN... I GUESS I DIDNT... BUT I AM NOW!!!

1ST... LEARN MIDI.

2ND... LEARN MORE MIDI.

3RD... PRACTICE MIDI THROUGH MANY FAILURES.

4TH... SUCCED AT MIDI.

go to beat clock in MIDI menu (7.4 is what im talking about here btw)

click the check box that correlates with the midi out port you are using.

cable out of interface... cable in to mpc..

cable out of mpc to asr IN

make beats with mp as sequencer and ASR as "sound module" by making sure you are in multi mode and instruments are "listening" to midi channels 1-8 in, respectively.

OR (cause im guessing the mpc .005 you are using has only one in and one out?)

additionally, you can use the keys of the asr to program the MP while building your beats... IE... recordplaystart on the MPC... Play keys.... MP plays back asr notes it received...

THEN when your done with your beat, UNPLUG the midi cable coming from the asr TO the mpc IN, and swap it for the BEAT CLOCKED one coming from your interface..

NOTE:

mpc tempo matches sesson tempo exactly (if playing back half time or double time adjust your resolution in the Tempo in tools (eights quarters etc.)

WAIT.... I DID.... SLVT!
Quote:
2. my sampler (asr-10), like most, has stereo outputs. but the mbox just has one input jack per input. will i need one of these to go from two to one? :

or is there a way to record both in? would i go through both inputs? (left - Input 1, right - Input 2)

Although I think the mbox 1 sounds better than the mbox2 by far...

midi can either be accomplished with a 2x2 midi interface (usb) and mbox1, or the 2

Both can record 4 tracks at a time... two analog, two digital (spdif in)

Dude, get the freekin 002 at least... racks are pretty dirt cheap right now.

10X the flexibility and expansiveness..

protools is only really dope when you have a bunch of physical in's and out's

PS... that ASR won't slave fer ish. the mp will.

1. yeah you said it but i doubted it cause i had heard otherwise
2. i don't have an mpc
3. "click the check box that correlates with the midi out port you are using."
it's clicked. but... thats not all there is to it... there are some settings to be changed on the asr-10, right?

to avoid confusion you can disregard my last few posts, i have refined my question to this:

How can I get Pro Tools to start recording when I hit play on the ASR? What settings do I need to adjust on both Pro Tools and the ASR?

i've been looking in the manuals for pro-tools and the asr-10 all day and can't figure shit out, so any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance

Why are you setting the ASR as the master ?, have PT as the master and have it trigger off the ASR10(slave) to multitrack it out.

Have PT send out midi clock to whatever midi out port you've got going to the asr. Then make sure the asr is set to recieve midi clock and you're good.
