Hard drives suitable for the 4000

I need to get a hard drive sorted out for my mpc as at present I have no internal storage. Can anyone give me a good recommendation for a hard drive to mount internally? I need to know what capacity you can place inside the mpc 4000 also (80, 120, 250 GB etc.)

Until recently I have been unable to fit the cd drive or any hard drive I might buy due to not having the mounting brackets (plates). I have found my friend can make some mounting plates so now need to get a hard drive sorted out in order to make the plate (need the dimensions of the fixing points.)

If anyone needs a hard drive or cd drive mounting plate let me know.

Apparently not. Before there was no info given after searching for hard drive, harddrive or hard disk. Now this thread, my question and your response, appears in the search results.

All that is mentioned on akaipro is a footnote at the end of the mpc 4000 talk concerning an 80gb HD made by seagate.
I would like to know about other drives of greater capacity.

At this stage in the game anything will work. The seagate hd was the recommended hd but that was back when.

The deskstar hd I took out of my 4k only had a 2mb cache. The 160 gig samsung replacement I installed carrys an 8mb cache and is much faster & quieter.

I've heard of others going much higher on the hd's, something like 250, 320, & 500 gigs or more. They say partitioning the drive on something other than the mpc before installing it allows that to work.

I put a seagate barracuda 120gb years back.
The number was like 3112_______?
It's silent.

Thanks for the feedback... I am looking at something in the region of 120gb-160gb as it seems to me that this is more than enough to work with. I assume that the mpc 4000 will not except s-ata drives...?

Maybe somebody using more than 120gb on a drive can post up the drive make/model and how many GB their MPC sees of it.

By american standards, that's a damn good price. Plus I don't see why that drive shouldn't work unless it itself is defective.
