Question 'bout Cables

How do scsi cables go bad? Also, can they go "partially bad?" I've been trying to load some old seq-files from old zips, and my mpc constantly gives me "scsi read errors" , but I get no problems loading the pgm-files from the same zips- everytime! I checked the zip faq, and I'm just trying to narrow down what the problem is. Seq-files load fine from floppys. Just my stupid zipdrive giving me grief. (And thru some more testing, its not just old zips- newer ones as well. Basically, ALL my zips.)

try troubleshooting the cheapest/most easily swapped parts first. that would be the cable. then try a new zip disk. you tried new disks, now try the cable. get a new one and try it out.
