running backwards

It feels like I am doing things backwards but
I used to use ONLY software and controllers sonar, fl studio, live, ......lots of vst synths and modules
then I got my mpc500 that changed the way I worked FOREVER!

Then last friday I got the hook up.. a slightly used korg r3 ---for 2 hundred usd !
that and a mixer with my mp, my pc only turns on for tracking and vocals....


good bye soft synths, now I just need a good "real instument" module..... yeah I could turn on my pc
but I think I'm crazy....I dont want to use it to make beats anymore....

my question now is..... am I crazy? anyone else rather not boot up their computer?


anyway wanted to rant, feelin good about this shit.... plus diving into a hardware synth and my mp, seems different
in a good way


edit ...forgot to say, switched sonar to reaper and that was also
a HUGE improvement for a daw

I feel that sentiment. I used to work only on hardware, then I went software, now I'm back at hardware again.

I've got a 2kxl, microkorg, sp-404, turntable, and wax. Now it feels like I have everything I need.

I'm putting out way more music on hardware than ever now.

I see that happened to me too, I only use comp for tracking and vocals now that i got the 60. It seems like software was supposed to be more advanced, but it doesn't have the same experience thats why hardware is more fun to use.


hopefully the price of hardware doesn't spike

note: before, in PCroducing days my patching, routing, of audio and midi was complex, now its a joke in here, It's an art to figure it all out ya know ? my r3, mp, and controll surfaces(and vsti's when I feel like some good keys, or non synth sounds) all play nice together midi wise. and audio patching to prevent loopback and sampling while listening to my dums and not get feedback is crazy. sorry another rant ...next week throwing a turntable into the mix

You're not crazy, I also went from software to hardware and I don't feel like turning my computer on to create music.

I started with software and wasn't really feelin' it. Then I got a MPC and quite a bit of hardware stuff. That was cool in the first place, but too restrictive for me. Now I'm soon back on Reason together with Record, sold nearly all my hardware, just kept two synths and the turntable. Let's see how this will be.

I think the point is to stay focused on your music. Not letting you get distracted by all the possibilities of your gear and focus on your sound is the key. In the end the the best of both worlds will be the way to go. And you can easily midi vstis to your MPC! Come on, don't spend a bunch of money for a "natural sound module". Get a proper plug in for that. It will be cheaper and still incorporates well with your hardware approach.

I combine both h/w & s/w, and I'm not crazy either.

I prefer Hardware also! The software is so extensive that it can't be ignored, but it will never replace hardware totally.
