ak.sys....

Ok, is there a manual for ak.sys 2.53? I have been trying to load samples into the mpc4000, i figured you can drag/drop into ak.sys and the samples show up in the mpc's sample list.

I cannot get the mpc front panel to show in the ak.sys program as, although it is there, it is greyed out.

When I have my samples transferred and showing in the mpc>sample>list how do I assign them to pads. I have only just started using the mpc and haven't yet read the manual so don't laugh...

Ak.sys was been the bane of my existance since I got my MPC!!! Srsly, I believe it was more designed for the Z4/Z8's without the 4000 in mind! I'd rather just load from my flash drive...

first in AKsys make a new drum program,
select that program and right click (windows) on the mpc4000 main icon in the browser of AKsys and select show pads (or something like that)

Now you can drag samples directly to your mpc pads

Ok, I am trying to figure this program out. I can see the potential of it but it doesn't want to work the way I think it should.

I am trying to use ak.sys as the main storage and filing medium for the mpc as I don't have any on board storage at the moment (no cd/hd installed).

I assumed that the ak.sys file path 'mpc4000>memory>program>right click program icon>save to pc option' would save everything you had just done (samples/edits/sequences/filtering options etc) ready to send straight back to the mpc from ak.sys.

This doesn't appear to be the case however. What, therefore, can be done if you don't have on board storage?

Does anyone around here use Ak.sys for anything other than file transfer? It seems to me its real strength(and likely what Akai had in mind) would be tweaking the synthesis parameters on the 4000.

Although still a beginner with the mpc4000 I have been using ak.sys to control sound parameters such as filter settings. It seems to me that ak.sys could be very useful as a visual tool to control the mpc, does anyone know if there is a decent manual or help files for ak.sys 2.53?

That said I am having difficulty in saving and loading using ak.sys, I need to know how it works properly.

Well, I have all but abandoned this rather frustrating program. I find the pad assign quicker and easier when dealing with drum programs. That said I am still in the early stages of the mpc 4000 learning curve so I may come back to ak.sys but it seems to me to be unfinished. I can see some potential for the key program elements of ak.sys as it can be used to control the mpc from the computer screen etc...

You said a mouthful right there. No mainstream support to continue the development of ak.sys or 1.7?, or even 2.0 for that matter.

At first people use the asksys but they move onto qlink controllers which it real time or getting external controllers which is better and more fun. In time you will too after the initial discovery wears off.

Its a pretty lame program I suppose. I have been using the access virus ti on and off for a few years and the software for that is really nice to work with. A great shame ak.sys falls so far short as a GUI. It would be great if it was as flexible as the access software, or similar, but designed for the mpc 4k's 'under the hood' operations.

For controlling hardware I imagine your GUi for virus is similar to maschine or live where you can control the GUI on screen knobs and parameters with a midi controller in realtime. Akys predates 2002 and I just use it for sample editing and looping along with sample transfers. The program and multi GUI is a mousing affair. Nevertheless I can use midi controllers to module my 4k with proper program matrix setup.
