anyone ever build a synth?

i think im gonna try... i have some knowledge of current flow and diagram reading.. i know i need a keyboard as a midi controller but do u think that it's possible to hollow out an axiom 25 and start from there???

cool idea, maybe though you should get a cheap controller to hollow out.

yeah i should as a first test...

i figure that mounting a heat sink(suspended) and a mounting plate would help for any issues i'd have with installing the units into the board... i know alot of synth builders utilizes walls of ins and outs but i im gonna aim for a mono synth that follows a not so colorful route path as the first try...

If you want to learn about synthesis/modular techniques it might be in your interest to pick up a copy of Reaktor or Max first and play around there. It won't give you the analogue sound, but should at least give you the building blocks and signal flow experience so that you can get an idea about how to connect everything together in an interesting/unique way.

i made two x0xb0x (303 clones) wich are cool but discontinued (i think you can still buy the pcb and source the parts yourself)
i made a midibox sid but i hardly ever use it .

how would you personally rate the 303 clones you built compared to the original? have you had the oppertunity to sit them side by side?


I have seen those for sale here and there but they are also quite pricey... but the fact that it is a dui kit is what I find awesome.

I remember when I wanted a 303. I looked for them on ebay the first time, and DAMN I couldn't believe people were paying this much for them.

That's not a bad idea. If I knew anything about building samplers I'd try it. There's a massive untapped market of people who want 1200s but don't have 2000 dollars to play with.

ive always heard cool things about those programs but thought that they may require more than i could provide so i shy'd away from them... but if u think they are worth it i can give it a shot... but isnt there a change with MAX no, like it's only used with abelton or something???

**** the sp1200 it's to hi fi for me, WTPA (8bit diy sampler) is the way to go http://narrat1ve.com/
the input stage has a cool sound on it's own sometime i use the wtpa without sampling just to "warm up" the sound
waiting for the wtpa 2

also if you plan to invest some money into a modular, the Entry System Purchase Plan at http://www.synthesizers.com/system-entry1.html is cool .
sadly the shipping would be too expensive to belgium
