MPC60 MK1 Floppy Drive Importance

Hi Guys,
I have a friend who got a great deal on a 60 MK1, OS 2.03. Seller said everything worked great until the floppy drive crashed, now it won't start up correctly. I took a look at it, and the screen turns on, but no text. With the older OS's, is floppy drive operation THAT important, to not enable the whole machine to boot?

Wondering if I should tell him to get roger linn 3.1 upgrade, but then again, Im not sure if that would fix the problem. Anyone ever have this issue? Or info about this?

Sounds weird cause when i've got OS 2.00 the machine boot without floppy too!

I'm not familiar with that version of the OS, but the MPC may be waiting for a ready signal from the floppy before continuing to boot.

If you read the threads there is a lot of info on finding cheaper floppy drives that will work inside a MPC 60. Floppy drives for Amiga computers are very similar to those in the MPC 60, so you can use the following link as a springboard for finding a replacement.

I never got why they are so expensive, I got mine for 30euro secondhand.

I know i know but once i bought a teac floppy with jumpers on ebay and it doesn't work on my s950.
One week ago wrote a post about floppy emulator with SD card instead but now are out of stock from the seller,i wanna try if it works.
Have you try to open the 60,disconnect floppy and power on the machine?

We have a SCSI Card Reader drive that works very welll in the MPC60 samplers, so if you don't want to spend all that dough for a replacement floppy, skip it and install our CF-CARD drive instead. The sampler will boot just fine without the floppy drive, as we sell these drives as floppy drive replacements all the time.
