But im new to this and i don't have a clue how to set up my speakers. Ive looked online and im none the wiser i currently have a Macbook running logic, Behringer 1204 mixer and some Alesis m1 active mk2 speakers. I currently have one speaker plugged into cd/output (red to red) and the other speaker to cd/output (white to white) i then have a cable going from my headphone jack on my laptop to cd/input (white to white, red to red) but i cannot hear any sound. Its set up like this

I don't know how to set it up to be honest, im sorry about this i just have never owned a mixer or speakers before.

Any help would be appreciated, many thanks

have you pressed the CD/TAPE TO MAIN button?

Actually, that won't work.

When that button is pressed the CD INPUT goes to the main mix, but the main mix doesn't go to the CD OUTPUT.

When that button isn't pressed, the CD INPUT is ignored, but the main mix goes to the CD OUTPUT.

So either way, CD INPUT won't go to CD OUTPUT.

Either try connecting your PC to a pair of channel inputs instead, or connect your speakers to a proper output, not the CD OUTPUT (which is for recording to a tape/dat/cd machine).

Your speakers should be connected to the main mix outputs or control room outputs (which will need jack to phono adaptors)

I edited my reply, see the revised version ^^

I got the answer by reading the manual, the description of the CD/TAPE TO MAIN switch says "At the same time, this switch disables the main mix to tape output link"

Moved to 'Getting Started' for obvious reasons...

There's stereo channels 5/6 & 7/8, any reason you choose not to connect your laptops' audio output to either of these two?

TheRiot wrote:Yeah man, ive done that and i get sound but one of my speakers is still really quiet. If i connect both of my outs (red and white) into a channel the sound only comes out of one speaker if i just take white out to an in on my mixer i get sound out of both speakers, surely thats not the way it should be though.

Does your monitors sport something other than the rca connections you're using? If so, use them instead of those wimpy budget cables you're using now.

This is pro audio stuff you're dealing with now, you'll have to put away the consumer theory.

Plus I think pastor of muppets gave you the answer to your problem, at least close to it.

Here's the behringer mixer I use (mx 8000). I've got powered bi-amped monitors connected directly to the mixer itself. I'm sure not only myself but the others too that contributed to helping are pretty confident in how to hook your 1204 up.

Still have the same setup, just without the old stuff.
