If you can determine the total time of the sample, simply divide the time by the number of beats... And then take 60 and divide that by the result.

I think what your looking for is in the Trim menu under Time Stretch. Hit F2 Tempo, enter the time signature and the number of beats, and hit F3 Auto. The Auto is for auto detection. There is also a Manual option (from sample Start, End). I asume that this is for when you have a long sample and have the start and end points closed in on a two bar, or any length, section and you dont want to discard the rest of the sample. So you can tell the tempo of just that section. I can't get this to work though. The only way I can get it to work is to set start and end points, then discard the ends, or truncate the sample. Then hit the Auto detection on the entire sample. When you do it this way, it works pretty well. Good luck.
