Poor in-sound quality/gain

My MPC60 record samples that sounds strange and play at low level! My friend was talking bout blown DAC, but I don't find any info about this... Anyone else had a problem with rec in?

If I'd go trubleshooting in the machine, were to look? I'm a noob to electronics and will probably have someone to look at it, but want to see if I could see something suspect for myself first... Thanks

What setting is the input level set too on the back? What happens when you turn that up to mid, or high then sample? Also, have you opened up the machine yet, is the memory expanded? Could be a bad memory expand hack job.

Also, if you do open it up, obvious things to look for are burn or scorch marks, also look for any dust or debris that might be making any connections that are not supposed to be there...and one thing that a lot of people miss too is the smell...sometimes you might not see anything but you can smell it if it's burning...hope that helps until you can get someone with experience to look at it...
