Hi to all MPC60/3000 gurus :)!
i am a Mpc1000 JJOS 2XL user(Love it!)
that drools about the misterious
"sound and groove" of the vintage MPC's ----- ;) ( forgive my ignorance)

So , i came accross a Ebay MPC60 MK I / OS 3.11 / original memory , no any other extras.
for about 500€
is it a good deal, can i work with that little nemory?
Is it worth it?

How could i combine the 128MB MPC1000 to work together with MPC60 , to use the Best of the Booth worlds?

thanks in advance for any advice , tips and thoughts :)

P.S. If u had à modern MPC (1000/2500/5000) with its ease of use
and expandability( memory,HD,USB)
AND you've desided to downgrade or just ADD another
vintage MPC to your setup for THE Sound n Groove --
Withch one would you choose:
MPC60 MK I+ OS3.11 (12bit, little memory, no Track mutes)
MPC60 MK II ( Same as above?)
MPC3000 ( more memory,groove, other pro features?)
MPC2000XL ( ease of use- modern OS, but what about Sound n groove?)
S950 ( 12bit sound on THE cheap)

peace

I use my 60 for drums and sequences and 1000 in MIDI for stereo/long samples, sometimes 1000 for sequences and 60 for samples.
Anyway my advice is take an s950 and make a powerfull combo with your 1000,S950 is a wonderfull sampler, more you use it more you love it.

THanks for your reply Trueskullbeatz

Found this opinion on another board :

You can get that sound on the pc.
What are you using now for beats, an mpc?
You can add lo-fi effects in at the mixing stage.

If you want to go the hardware route, I suggest a Zoom sampletrak, Boss sp202, or Ensoniq eps/eps16
Don't pay much for them though. Go bargain hunting.

There are of course other hardware options, but they usually carry a premium vintage price tag.

TBH the vintage Akai in my experience has a somewhat overrated sound.
I preferred the sound of my Sampletrak to the s900 for lo-fi work.

MPC1000 is my 1st MPC ... i have never used or touched older machines YET....

I am still learning MPC1000 JJOS 2XL --- and i LOVE it : the amount of memory 128MB i incredible ! , the effects, chopping, slicing, nondestructive chopping, track mutes, resampling , USB , etc..etc
its got lots of hidden power in one little box that i am just beginning to discover !

Will i have the same relation "discovery" with the older machines if i have started on the new one?

How difficult it WAS for You guys to jump between more modern MPC2000/2500XL/ 1000/2500 JJ OS and a vintage MPC 's like MPC60/3000 or the AKAI Samplers S9500 / S3000 old text menu operation and limited expandability...?
How do you guys deal with this... did you all started out on the vintage machines ?

Just trying to figure out is MPC60 worth getting at all .... will i be able get into it ( i am quite patient),
or would i just get stuck for months n month figuring out simple tasks... and waist my time instead of making music?

Doesn't MPC1000 + JJ OS2XL got solid sequencer and all the Swing/groove quantize options as well,
and lo-fi 12 bit Downsampling conversion ( even f its not real) effects and even more FX ( EQ's, Filters, Comressor,)
that sound decent and could get pretty close to the vintage sound -----

why is MPC60 so praised ... is it overrated or not, a legend , cult , obsession ?

P.S. please forgive my ignorance of a complete MPC wannabe beginner for thinking out loud ,
respect to all of the MPC gurus out there!

This should prob get moved to comparison threads, but honestly. You should do what truskullbeatz said. Just spend a couple hundred bucks and by a S950 to compliment your 1000. if you are lovin all these cool features in the 1000, then you'll be dissapointed. Alot of people who buy the newer MPC's, then grab a 60/3000 are lost. They miss the concvience of autochop, effects, cf cards, sampling time, etc..

Reason people like myself like the 60 is because of build quality, better sound (12-bit), better pads, better midi capability, better sequencer (swing), standard 8 outs, dedicated FX sends, and work flow. Plus if you are working strictly with 13 or 26 seconds, alot of creative music can come out of being limited. I had a 1000 as a back up for awhile, and although convenient. I got pretty bored w/ it. I was sampling everything, but not making much. Plus the pads, midi capabilities, etc....

Also, the 2000XL shouldn't be seen as a classic sounding machine. There is nothing special about it. I think people get it confused, just cause it is gray and made in 90's its warmer. I personally think the 1000/2500 sound better then 2000XL. Only MPCs that add "good" color to samples are the 60 & 3000. And yes, its a sound that CANNOT be replicated truthfully by software or outboard gear.

But honestly, any MPC will do the trick. Although I love the sound of my 60. Dope music comes from who's behind the machine. Whether its fruity loops or an SP1200.

Thanks CV1200 for you time to answer my beginners rumblle - uppreciate it :)

I find your experience with MPC60 and MPC1000 very interesting could u please to give more detailed comparison:

What do u mean "better sequencer SWING " on MPC60 compared to MPC1000 , did u checked the new Swing features on the JJOS XL 1.40 is it still better on the MPC60 with OS 3.10 ?

Better Pads on MPC60 or on all MPC's before the MPC1000? - in what way are they better , bigger , more sensitive( sorry never touched big pads before) ?

You've mentioned that you liked the workflow on the MPC60 more -- were you able to come up with a finished tracks faster than on the MPC1000 or something else?
Do you know any links to hear track done entirely on the MPC60 with that i could check?

I am dealing already with the MPC60 seller that is ready to sell it for 500 euros ( 637$) ... looks like a good deal

cause S950 go for 150-200 euros ..but they have no sequencer , no pads...

i am in a great doubt to go for it or not ?

Anything before or after MPC 1000 has better pads, haha. Better tiltable screen options too, except for classic 2K & 500.

MPC 60 has a looser sequencer, less ppq & slower processor. So it feels/ sounds more to me like a real drummer. Which gets a disarable sound. Its nothing super drastic but noticeable, especially when you use it. Plus the 60 has 4 midi outs and you can merge midi channels from the front screen.

Do a forum search for music done on a 60, there are whoel threads about it. But most hip hop before 93-94 used an mpc60 or sp1200. Or just buy Endtroducing by DJ Shadow, he did that whole album on a 60 and multitrack. In general, on an MPC60 its easier to get were you need quick, one button and you are were you need. 1000 you need to shift, then select, then scroll. I wouldn't say any machine is faster to make tracks per say. You can get quick on either of um.

Still Id go buy the s950. it doesn't have sequencer, but thats what you use your 1000 for. Midi um together, then you get real 12-bit sound, and all the functions of ur 1000 that you like. If you like the 1000 so much, you should stick withit.

OK, today I've made up my mind and decided not to go for MPC60

Instead, I took wise advises from you guys and got AKAI S950 Sampler (stock memory) of Ebay today for 120€ ---- to use with my MPC1000
thanks for your support guys :)
