As far as I know, NO, I have used MAC and PC formatted on my MPC.
There are some past topics that can CONFIRM this.

I was gonna ask this in a new thread, and thought I'd search first, but couldn't find an answer... only this thread.
So what's best? I just got my xl (w/ internal 100mb zip). Do brand new disks need to be formatted on the mp? Will it make a difference whether it is formated on the mp or if I just leave it and start using it right away? And lastly, does the fact that I won't be using a pc at all mean it WOULD be better to format my disks on the xl?
Thanks in advance

I think you can use new disks without formatting them, but formatting on the MPC allows you to partition them which you cannot otherwise do.
I've always formatted my disks for my external 250 drive. I never thought of trying to use a new disk without doing that. Formatting doesn't take long.
