SP303/404 & the 2000XL?

I have been looking into using these two machines in combination with each other and Im wondering if any of you have used the two together.

Basically what Im thinking of doing is running my samples through the SP303 or Sp404, and then tracking those edited samples out to the XL, then get to work on the beat inside the XL.

Im really liking the Lo-Fi effects and Vinyl Simulations on the SP's, and then work it all out on the XL.

I can get the XL for cheap from a buddy of mine, just wondering about this combo.

Yeah those two are a great pair. I have a 404 and an XL, and I mostly use the 404 for morphing samples and put them in the XL.

Also Jel uses the 404 and the XL together, so if you have a hard-on for Anticon beats then maybe that'd be a big selling point for you.

The SP 505 is better

There's a screen. Makes life easier.

a noob questions real quick though

1. the 303 does have the option to change the start and end times of a sample right?

2. would all i need for the 303 is the 64MB Media Card? or does it have another type of memory/ram?

1. Absolutely yes. You'll have to work by ear, of course, but start and end points could definitely be finely trimmed with the 303.

2. Although it got an internal 22 seconds internal memory, an old school 64M Media Card is badly recommended. 128MB ones are not working safely, or at least there are often bugs reported by the people using them.

Go with the SP303, it's a great companion to all MPCs even if just used as a pass-thru box, it will heat/beef up your samples. And when it comes to the FX section, OMG, it kicks asses!

just by reading this thread, it made me youtube some vids. saw this one guy using his XL, playing it live and using the FX of the 303 in real time to change the way the beat sounded. it was **** awesome

im actually thinking of selling my 500 and buying the XL, although i may pick up the 404 instead...

i actually heard some samples, which were sampled thru the 202, 303 and 404 and they all sounded GRIMEY!!


if your into making those dirty lo-fi beats, then i say hell yeah

do it i use the sp404 with mpc5000...
the sampling and resampling with effects is really cool...trimming samples is a lil pain on the sp404 but thats what you do with the mpc...the effects are real cool and good to use for urban music..
i like the sound of the lofi sample mode...

yeah dude, i just bought a 303 with a 64MB card off eBay tonight. i'll post some samples up or something and let you hear it if you havent already decided yet...be about a week or so before i get it, but...

just **** around... but yeah, its a tight combo.
