SEQUENCE MIDI KEYBOARD WITH MPC2000? (I know i know)

Hi all, new to the forum and to the mpc series production center, but just wanted to know if anyone knows where i can find a step by step type thing regarding how to sequence my external MIDI keyboard (alesis qs8, tritons) via the mpc2000. I already checked out the link under binger0's forum of "popular questions and essential info," and found some links to a midi tutorial that are now dead, and no tutorials are available to new members of the forum. CAn anyone help? I'm virtually clueless, and don't have the $40.00 to spend on an e-book to find this out, as I just got the mPC!! any help is greatly appreciated...........and yes ive searched the forum for this issue, and never really get what im looking for as it all is a bit more advanced than the level im at. I understand the concept of MIDI sequencing, just wanna know how to get at it in the mpc.

Where are you in SSF? I probably live near you. You just plug in the midi ins and outs of the controller and the MPC. Under track on the main screen where it says "DRUM 1" etc, just switch it to Midi and you should be able to press the pads to sequence it like normal on the MPC.

At least that's how it is for my keyboard.

I'm trained classically as a pianist, been making beats for alooong time tho....the harder way...I got so good at keepin time that I was usin a Boss Dr-770 for drums (eh...), Alesis QS8 as the keyboard, then used with a Korg Triton, a Roland VS-880Ex for the recorder, and sampling (shit forget it...no way to go about it then really)...but basically before the Triton, no way to really sequence and get that perfectly timed feeling in alot of the beats I wanted...INterestingly enough, I just got turned onto the Akai MPC line of sequencers / drum machines, and so got a MPC2000 (non xl) off of Ebay for around $600...(DOESN"T include the 8 outs so ill have to add that), upgrading the memory but i think i'll do just fine for now.......just gettin help beforehand on the sequencing.....Phatz, thanks for the link..

I just graduated from El Camino in June. I'm 17. Takin a break for at least a semester or so. Still thinking about college. Just working and making beats.

You can probably get going with hooking up the cables as described, you just need to figure out the MIDI channel stuff, multitimbrality, and so on. e.g. Triton needs to be in Seq mode with parts assigned to channels, if you want a sequencer to play 16 parts. (So the manual tells me, I don't have one myself.)

This is all about the keyboards and modules, not about MPC sequencing directly. But my principle is to get all the MIDI routing sorted out, then you can select what sounds you want, hit "Record" and go, once you know where the MIDI is coming from and where it's going.
