whenever i arm any of my tracks, the audio level goes up and stays there, with no sound playing, and what i'm trying to record into pro tools does not record. it looks like this:

why is this happening?

basically when the output of the system is fed back into the input of the system, which is then fed to the output of the system, which is then fed back into the input of the system, repeat to infinity... Along the way, the signal gets amplified and ends up being a loud burst of noise.

Or another scenario (besides the obvious mic-speaker problem in that link) is where you have the inputs and outputs of your ASR hooked into the interface, and the ASR is set to monitor its inputs. You can create a feedback loop by sending the master channel of PT into the ASR, the ASR outputs back into a PTLE mixer channel, and that channel back into the master channel of PT, which is then sent back out to the ASR......

In more straightforward terms, what ever is going into that channel in PT is going out of that channel and out of your soundcard, and back into that channel. You will need to rewire something (most likely the inputs or outputs of your ASR) to break the loop.

Probably not the same, but when my macs been on for 5hrs+ and I go to record in protools it does that. I just restart and it's fine. I'm using an mbox 2 and pt 7.3.1 if that matters any.
