Problem hearing some of the samples

Hi!

I have an mpc 1000, jj os 3.09, 160 GB HD.
I downloaded some sample banks, and then downloaded them into the hard drive.
These banks contain wav files.
They all appear on the hard drive. It recognizes them.
When i try to listen to the samples, some of the banks work (completely) and some don't. And i'm not talking about some of the sounds - but about the complete bank.
For example, "Loopmasters Airwave Loops" is working fine.
But "Sample magic minimal tech" doesn't make a sound.
Another strange thing is, for example, when i try to listen to samples from "Veangance Future House", it only gives me the first 1/16 bass drum hit - when i know it's supposed to be a complete loop.

I've also tried uploading a bank that worked and one that didn't - to the flash card. Same thing happens.

When i play these samples on my computer, they all work. But on the mpc some of them do and some of them don't - though it recognizes all of them.
I don't think it's a name problem, since the problem is complete wav sample banks.
Is it folders? Something else? What could it be? Help please!

I think you're in the right direction. I don't know if they are 44K/16bits, but the ones that work are all 1411 kbps, while the ones that don't appear to be 2116 kbps.
So now that we found what's the problem - how do i convert all the files? And is there an elegant and fast way to do it - or do i have to go one by one (this would take weeks)? What software can i use and how?

Those numbers that you are providing don't necessarily indicate the 44.1khz/16bit'dness. Especially since the samples may have more than one/two channels or could have other weird combinations.

Use a program like Audacity (it's free) to see exactly what the file format is and you can also use it to save the 44.1khz/16bit.

Never the less, it seems like all the samples that work are 1411 kbps, and all those that don't are 2116 kbps. Couldn't be by chance, i think.

The highest bandwidth could of course depend on several factors, but it's most probably linked to the bitrate being 24bit instead of 16bit and/or the frequency being 48k instead of 44k.

Anyway, should you need to batch convert them all into 44k/16bit, just google that "WAV file batch conversion" and locate which free application best suits your needs.

Only, i'm not sure wether i should choose 44k/16bit mono or stereo. Are both of them compatible with the mpc 1000?

Actually, i have. I paid $ for the "beat making on the MPC1000", the famous tutorial.
I searched the phrase "sample rate" and a few other options - but with no result.

Anyway, the advice helped a lot. I tried it on one of the banks. Now i have some work to do, converting the rest.

One more thing to be aware of is that all of the sample names need to be 16 characters or less. I run into this problem quite a bit. There are easy ways to rename an entire folder of sounds quickly, but I have to re-figure it out every time. Good luck.

How do you do it?
I have about thousands of samples that have to be re-named to a shorter name. Unless there's a quick, elegant way pf doing that - it's gonna be a LOT of work...

Mono vs Stereo is not related to sample rate though. If you'd searched for "stereo" you might have had more luck. e.g. page 7 in the mpc1000 manual says

There are 2 kinds of samples: Stereo sample (2-channel sample with left and right channels), and Mono sample (1-channel sample).

So, why don't google that like for the batch conversion...

"batch file renaming" could do the trick...
