which MPC for Electronic drummer? (look Ma, no fingers!)

I've got a set of Yamahaha Extreme IIS midi drums, and rediculously fast hands...I'm unhappy with the dorky sounds in the Yam's brain, so I'm wanting to trigger my own custom doctored sounds with no latency...I've tried the Abelton/Firebox/midi kit set up, and it's too slow...So...I was told to use a sampler and go straight from my midi interface (drum pads and brain) into the sampler and trigger the sounds in there...

So the set up would be...backing track playing off the labtop via Abelton...Live drumming on midi drums using Yam's brain to translate signals...midi out to Sampler triggering custom sounds...out to mixer...

Does that sound right?

From my research and ear on the street...the MPC is top tits...but...she's got ALOT of sisters...and they're all hot...but I want to get this right the first time so I don't end up with some high maintenance tweety biatch that I can't take out any more...

I found a 1000 on Craigslist for 600 bones...I don't mind doctoring each sound in Wavelab etc...I just want to know what ride to drive and if I'm even in the right town...

My friend does this exact thing. Works a treat.

If you prep your loops in the MPC you might be able to get away with skipping the laptop, but depends on your requirements. Ableton is pretty flexible with getting those loops flowing when needed, that's for sure.

Also if you do bring the lappy, don't forget that you can use the MPC's midi output to sequence/start/stop loops in Ableton as well. A lot of power to be had there for the taking.

I wouldn't rule out the rack samplers either... like the s5000 or s6000. I know someone who uses a s6000 like that.

you should do whatever that guy Araab does, hes got fast hands as well, search him on youtube.. see if that helps
