my mpc is dead....someone help!

sigh......ok so here is problem (explained as best as it can) by someone who knows very little about the technical aspects of anything....ok one day i turn on my mpc and after ive finished loading one of my programs i notice after pressing some buttons that there no sound coming out...i check my headphones and then try hooking the outputs to better speakers only to find sound IS coming out but very very quiet.....i turn the onboard mixer to +12 and still its coming out super quiet.....i try to load other sounds and still really quiet....so im like whatever i turn it off.....well i go to turn it on the next day and nothing....it doesnt even turn on...blank screen.......sigh.....so at first i thought maybe i just like blew a fuse or something, hence the weak signal, but now it doesnt even turn on and im a **** wreck because music is my life......but anyway, if anyone has had similar problems or knows much more then me and has already figured out the problem by reading this PLEASE drop some knowledge and lend a helping hand.

well for the sound to be coming out very quiet i am assuming that you are not connnected to an amplifier correct?

If your MPC is in a room with a low temp. the cables will become dry. There is a gel made to moisten cables. Or simpley lick them. Oh yah cable do go bad over time. Especialy cheep ones.

ok let me clarify.....it has NOTHING to do with my cables or room temperature.....i tested it through various outputs (headphones,amps,yatta yatta) and still to no avail....but if you read all of my post youd know that that WAS the problem....the NEW problem is that it doesnt turn on at all......can anybody offer alittle more thorough advice than say adjusting the thermostat or "licking" my cables...

This may not be that thorough but my advice is take it to the repair shop.It may take a little time and doe but it'll be worth it to your mp back bangin' out beats.

Check your fuses.

did it cut off the power when it turned off??open up the mpc and check the fuses n if they are blown then take it to repair shop..because if the fuse had died that means that power prob hasnt reached the mpc powerboard which is after the fuse..if u replace the fuse then power might make it through and blow up the mpc power board..dont **** around with it....oh n try pluggin it into a different power point

i'd imagine you have FULL LEVELS engaged.

that would explain the sound. you don' t need an amp ( because it's digital )-the headphone jack should be the proper test jack. If you have the 8 outs, check those. Now if you turned the machine on the next day and no screen-either you are not telling us the full story, or someone got in there and wrecked you box-maybe momz has been bangin out...


no jokes though-the mpc glitches here and there-but something had to have been done to the machine for THAT to happen-and humidity in your environment will definatly make shit short out-or if its exposed to direct sun light-

yo , i know someone with a long haired cat. his machine frizzle fried one day, when he brought it to the shop, they found an afro inside it.

ok...since obviously most of you are as stumped as i am, i think ill head for a repair shop.

Man, i think everyone is missing the point, or maybe i am, but it sounds as if you have the same problem i had/have. Let me explain. Probably cuz i used to keep my MPC on for days, it eventually started, pretty much loading up when it wanted to. It eventually required me to load up the new OS e'ry time i turned it on. Then i would have to do e'rything in one session, let it rest for a few days, then go back at it. this went on for a couple months, i was avoiding taking it in. then one fateful day, i was working on something and there was a big storm. Of course, power went out, and i lost eveything. For two weeks and 3000 attempts, I got blank screens, thick black bars and more blank screens. I figured i blew a fuse, and was forced to take it in. The guys tells me i blew the flash rom, but i have yet to confirm that, still waiting to get my baby back. My suggestion is to unplug it, let it rest for like 3-7 days. You might get various strange messages. The one you want to look for is "LOAD MPC2000XL DISK.BIN". This allows you to load the OS and proceed. If this never happens, unless u have a good personal tech guy, you might need to give that authorized service center a ring. If you need more info, just ask the kid...

I never switch my gear on when there's an electrical storm out. and leaving it on all the time is just wrong.

I don't see a problem with it powered on with a storm going on, JUST MAKE SURE YOU'RE PLUGGED INTO GOOD SURGE PROTECTOR! And save your project more often. I'm not letting a thunderstorm ruin my beat session. Tempted to get a generator up in this ****!

I don't see a reason to leave it on all the time either, it boots up fairly quickly.

Surge protectors can't stop Lightning man...
