IMO the 1000 just sounds clear. Good sound quality.
It doesn't colour the sounds as the old samplers did. That was just a sideffect with the old samplers that happened to be perfect for grimmey lo-fi hiphop and dance samples.
With the new mpc's u just have to work a little bit harder to get ur sound before u sample it. And of course postproduction can also make a huge difference.
