anybody else feel jjos policy is bull ?

Therefore, when you get new MPC or MPC is exchanged by repair etc., it is necessary to purchase a new password of OS1 and OS2

So I sold my 2500 about two years ago didnt include OS1 I paid US$ 49.00 for. Over the weekend aquired a second hand 2500, now I gotta pay another $50 ? Shouldnt I be able to swap the product ID's so I can use this on my current MPC and pay for any future updates if anything.

Has anybody delt with this before ?

I dont think its bull, dude is doing a pretty good service to the community and really has no other way to protect his stuff.

Im not knocking his hustle or contribution. But I feel this is equivalent to Apple or Microsft charging its customers each time they format and reinstall OS. Shit dont sound right if you ask me....there should be a way to swap the products ID's. Meaning I give him product ID of my old MPC and new one to swap in its place.

if you sell your mpc then the jjos adds value to the machine.

see if the person you sold you's too is willing to trade with you, tell them your old unit has "sentimental" value or something

The problem is that once you put it on the MPC, JJ has no way to verify that you've removed it. Otherwise what'd be to stop you from 'gifting' the old MPC to a buddy at cost, buy a cheap used MPC and then get a free copy of JJOS saying you got a new system and require a new code. Unfortunately the way the MPC works there is reasonable mechanism for JJ to be able to verify that you have in fact removed the OS from the system.

I am sure that he could do something so you could put a code in and have it remove it from the MPC, but then it would require the MPC to also mark it as not allowing the old JJOS code to be reinstalled. So then what, the MPC requires a new code, but since the code comes off of the system ID, what does he use to generate a new code from?

Honestly, it's quite a headache doing this stuff in software and once you start doing these kinds of install code/uninstall code kinds of games it quickly devolves into an ugly mess to support. As far as I know JJ is one guy, and probably not making it big supporting the MPC so I doubt he wants to add any more headache to his installation mechanism than already exists.

No its more like them charging their customers for the OS each time they buy a new computer. Which is exactly what they do.

I agree that it's a fair way to have some control. The OS tied to a machine. It is anyway not a huge market

It's $113 now for all the OS versions or nothing at all.
I think that's a bullshit policy. I only want JJOS1, why would I have to pay full price?
But I can handle my bizz with the free version so can't really care too much.

I have never been charged each time I choose do to a clean install.

I can see what you mean though. You bought it, and you want to be able to keep it. Just look at it for what it is though, a superior O.S. by a third party.
Also putting JJ on an even playing field with Apple, or Mircrosoft is a little unfair If I may say so.

He deserves to get paid. But I agree that forcing people to buy OS2 and XL if all they want is OS1 is a bit dodgy...

Unless the OS is free, so upgrade to a drum machine has ever been transferable. Roger Linn's upgrade for the MPC-60 isn't, and neither is the Vailixi OS for the MPC3000.
You install it on your machine and the value increases. Sell it, and the buyer has an upgraded MPC. Now you buy another MPC and want the same benefits as the MPC you already sold? See my point? Thats like building a hotrod, selling it, and expecting the same souped up parts in your "new" car.

if he didnt do it this way we could just keep giving new product i.d.s and get it for free????? spent at least couple hundred on the mp whats $113 more to make her sexy?
