MPC and a sampler together

Just curious why I see alot of guys using samplers like the s950 or the asr with an mpc. I know the mpc is a sequencer but why not do it all in the mpc? Does anyone reccomend getting a sampler also?

so basically they will sample in the asr or the 950 then control it all with the mpc? Do you recomend the asr or the 950?

Depends, they are 2 waaaaaaayyyyyyy different machines. What are you trying to do?
The asr has a ton of efx (50), the S950 only has a filter. The asr records samples in 13-bit format and plays them back @ 16-bit. The S900/S950 is a true school 12-bit machine, and sounds very close to a MPC 60.

imo, the asr is more useful. The s900/s950 is a little dated and has less depth, but the crunch and grit you get out of the converters is almost unbeatable.

Imo, Unless you are an absolute master of youre MPC, dont **** with another sampler. It will take time away from creating beacuse both machines have somewhat of a learning curve and it will take time to build youre own sample banks.

Ive had both, by the way..I sold em both and strictly use the 2KXL an analog mono synth and my decks w/serato now. I felt like the year I spent researching/gearslutting could have been better spent in front of my MPC creating.

Straight up, recording gear is a much better investment than another sampler, your going to want to play your beats for someone outside of your bedroom one day.

So there is no need for one? Just mess with my 2kxl?

Its all up to you man, that the joy of music, treat it like your ****.

You can go out and spend all this money on her, or you can be stingy...either way, the pussy is still exactly the same and thats really the only reason youre around.

Make beats on your MPC only, or cop an ASR and combo them up, either way... youre going to be making music.





Dont be too curious, curiousity uses brain power that you could be funnelling into creativity. Dont forget, the reason we do this is to make music, not collect gear!!

As far as your MPC goes:
Do you feel like YOU need more? Do you know how to beatmatch, timestretch, step edit, and resample with youre XL yet? If the labels above the buttons got worn off, would you need to get the XL restenciled before you could use it again? ARE YOU A MASTER OF THE XL??

If you answered yes to everything, buy a new toy...If you answered yes to the first question and no to the rest, dont buy a new toy...
