New at sampling

I just got into this stuff and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on sampling. I have a 2kxl and Ive been buying records but I cant find anything that sounds good to sample (atleast to me). Ive been buying soul, rock a lil jazz, but I am baffled on how to go about this. I can sample into the machine, chop it up n stuff, but Im just looking for some advice on this stuff. Any would be helpful.

What's up bro. To be honest there's no one right answer to this. The best advice I could offer is to keep messing with the machine. Keep reading the manual and perfecting the technical stuff while experimenting. Soon enough you'll stumble on something that sparks your interest. By that point you'll be more comfortable on the machine and will improve a lot. It just takes time.

I'm new to this and don't make the best beats, but one thing is for sure, carefully listen to your favorite producers/beatmakers and then look up the sample that they used for their songs. Figure out the way that they chopped it up or sampled it, and mimic it as best you can, while giving it your own flavor!

When I first started I mainly looked for instrument sounds without any backing beat or vocals.

I chopped them at the beginning of each note or "sequence of notes" and just laid them out on the pads. I'd sequence a simple kick-snare-hat beat and then try and sequence the instruments over top.

Chopping drums and breaks is a little more complicated than that, but it gave me the basic's i needed to learn how. I was too scared to ask up in here lol. Mad flames were flying around then

Not scared so much as hesitant because some peoples answer to questions was RTFM & don't ask here what you can google on your own . At the time I didn't know what questions to ask, so I figured self education was key so I didn't look too too bad when i actually did have a decent question.

I saw a few people ask "how do you sample/chop" and lots of people just said "play with your machine and you will figure it out". So thats what I did.

when sampling instuments with drums in the background chop on the kick, use ur filters, and dont be afraid to sample anything, movies, games, hell ur own voice and play it backwards...

I have been trying to loop also. Kind of having a hard time, but I guess it will come together.

I've found that the easiest samples to loop are already loops in the original song. Maybe find a 1 bar loop that loops like 4 times in the song and practice on those. If you try and chop (for example) 2 bars out of a 8 bar sequence from a song, it doesn't tend to sound as nice because the melody isn't complete without the other bars you cut out. So if you stick with short loops that were originally intended to be repeated, it will probably work out better.

Where Im getting confused, and forgive me if its in the manual, is figuring out how long the sample is so if I have my sequence set to 4 bars, how to get that timed up good. I saw that times stretch feature but its always at 4 bars if that makes any sense. like if I go time stretch then hit bpm, the beat is always set to 4. then there is the source tempo and the new tempo option. Should I be counting what Im recording?

Count, **** around with the tempo, use timestretching... it all works.
