Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I've successfully got my MPC controlling my Microkorg synth and got some funky basslines going. I know how to record the audio back into the MPC easily enough but I'm wondering if I can also simultaneously record the midi data?

I could do this on Logic without any trouble.

The reason for this technique -

1) I'm enjoying coming up with basslines using the MPC's pads (Microkorg has dinky little keys)
2) I want to be able to quantize my slightly off performances, and only record the performance into the MPC once I've quanitized it.

I could do this on Logic, but am still new to the 2500.

In other news, I bought the Beat-making on the MPC 2500 book and I think it is a good investment. And I prefer the MPC to a computer screen that's for damn sure. The thing is user friendly.

Im not sure I understand your question.

Which sequencer are you using here?

If you are using the MPC pads to create basslines the midi data can be recorded/ edited in the MPC sequencer.

Have you looked through the MPC Studio Environments and Production Techniques forums???

I'm trying to use the mpc pads to control the external synthesizer - but instead of recording the audio of the performance right away (because I make mistakes), I want the mpc to record my 'midi performance', and I then want want to quantize the midi performance. After that my plan is to hit play on the mpc and have the new quantized performance controlling the external synth. Then I want to record the quantized audio into the mpc.

So far I've been unable to achieve this on the mpc (but I have done this using the Microkorg synth and Logic).

I can't see the issue here.
The MPC DOES record midi events.
It doesn't just sample audio.
If TC is set then it will quantise your performance after you've played it in without you having to go back and quantise it.
