Old progressive/experimental rock

So, I was thinking about digging into this genre, because as far as I'm aware it seems rather untouched as far as hip hop goes. (If not, someone please show me hah) But all I know off the top of my head and from short term wikipedia searches is rather limited to bands like Yes, Rush, iron Butterfly, the Monks, and the subgenre krautrock. Does anyone have insight into this, or some good groups/labels to look into?

I've definetely been looking at krautrock. That stuff is awesome.

Love progressive rock. There's really ill stuff to find there. Madlib has sampled Gong and Gentle Giant several times (Bullysh!t, Strange Ways) and that weird sample on Jaylib - React is from a Gentle Giant track as well.

Not all German rock/prog music is "Krautrock." I would never classify Can, Faust, Brainticket, Amon Duul, Cluster, Ash Ra Temple, etc as "Krautrock."

Can is one of my alltime favorites. I wouldnt exactly call them krautrock either. Although they are Krauts and they do rock.

Yes, Necro sampled them a lot!
But their LP's seem to be expensive and quite hard to find...

The original Cinevox LPs are rare gems , but there are quite a few re-issues out there.
I paid 20 bucks for a mint japanese vinyl copy of "Roller", not that expensive imo, and
Dagored re-issued all the classic O.S.Ts on Vinyl (Suspiria, Profondo Rosso, Tenebre, Dawn of the Dead )
