need advice about equipment to choose

since I don't have a lot of money I've been getting equipment one at a time over time
I got the MPC, some sound mods and keyboards hooked up to my mixer

now I have enough money for the next step which would be syncing everything onto my computer

so I was reading about the M-Box 2 that comes with Pro Tools 8 LE, seemed a reasonable price
but then I read that there are lots of problems when it comes to the software and the different Mac OS X versions

I have 10.4 OS X but will later be upgrading
so I read that is only works with 10.5 then I also read some reviews and they said it won't work PAST 10.4?
I'm a little confused

so anyways I was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what to do or some other options

because I can get an MBox2 for like $150 and I wanna know before I make the decision

If all else fails email the manufacturer, they will probably have the most accurate information on the latest compatible OS and/or any known bugs.

**** with Logic and dont worry about youre osx version. The apogee duet shits all over the Mbox 2!!! Dont sleep.

the MBox 2 has the plugins for MIDI cables in the back and it opens up in Pro Tools


I see the Duet is small without any other plugins...

so my question is, how would you get that MIDI information into Logic on your Mac?
where are those cables going to?

I assume there would be a difference if I hooked up all my shit to the interface with Duet and Logic

Keep in mind, you may encounter driver issues if you try running different interfaces from different manufacturers at the same time.

Chances are...you might find the Duet as sounding better than your regular interface, thus causing you to want to stick with it as your main I/O workhorse.

to be honest, I'm quite confused with this Duet
the fact that it doesn't have MIDI in/out discourages me, although I'm sure there's a way to it
I'd rather just keep it simple at the moment I guess

I like that lexicon, it reminds me of the time I grabbed one only to find it immediately became obsolete just months after its release.

But all jokes aside, I did enjoy the brief experience with the unit I bought but the support wasn't there.

I think there was a passing of the tourch back then so that's why there wasn't any general support given.

However, I do like the specs on the lex and think that would be a good choice for you. Now on the midisport, it doesn't provide any sound at all since it's purpose is strickly midi.

I use a MOTU MTP A/V for all of my midi routing, so the only difference between the two is the number of devices each can handle (mine-8x8, yours-2x2).

I have a 12-channel mixer with my MPC2500 and 2 sound modules
all three going into their own channels on the mixer

and I got the modules hooked up to "A" and "B" on the MPC MIDI outs
and can control them w/ the keyboard hooked to MIDI In 1.... obviously
I'm just making beats and having to save and store them in the vaults
I want to put it up on the computer now
and finally be able to take my module sounds outside my home for others to hear


out of this picture, I just need to make a good decision on what MIDI Interface to use
because in a few months I'm going to get a whole new computer along with Logic
(currently my music isn't connected to my computer)

any good specific interface you can recommend or comes to mind that would fill the spot?
I just don't wanna buy a lame one

I figure this is the last piece I need at the moment to do exactly what I want to do...

If you want to know of a good midi interface to use and not worry about anything, grab yourself a MOTU.

Obviously I use one myself because I need it to run at least 7 or 8 sound sources. I've been using a MOTU MTP A/V for almost a decade now and its been trouble free for that length of time as well.

There's others out there that cost much less, but don't hold the same rep and performance.

There will be no issues running a MIDI interface alongside an audio interface. In Logic, you can even run an audio interface alongside another audio interface by setting up an aggregate device.

Don't get hung up on the MIDI interface needing to be part of your Audio Interface. The suggestions for the Duet are sound. It is the best quality at that price range. MIDI interfaces sell for peanuts.
