im kinda confused as to how an effects unit works with the 60 but am interested in one...any recommendations?will this allow me to add multiple effects to my drums and will it work with midi?

Quadraverb. Its not expensive and has some great rooms and delays. I own some comparitively expensive gear like the Lexicon PCM90 etc and can vouch that the QV has some quality FX in there.

If you want to do sound mangling then you can get things like Bit crunchers and BigBriar filters that will help. These days I use Waves 5.0 software for the fx, its unbeatable and works nicely on my laptop so no big towers **** up your landscape.

In addition to the Alesis model mentioned...

Ensoniq DP4 or DP4+, best bang for buck, most features.

4 x processing engines with discrete inputs and ouputs for each.

I too own MANY fx processing units and am happy to say that the DP4 and DP4+ are top class multi pupose effects processing boxes.

Hey Rohan, isn't that what the ASR-10 effects section is based on?

By mpc3000le Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:15 am
Yep.

Ensoniq ESP CHIP technology.

The ASR-10 has as it's FX processor engine what is in affect 1/4 of a DP4.

The ALGORITHMS for ESP CHIP configuration between a DP4 and ASR10 ?

Almost identical... IE: Same great reverbs, same wikid phaser ... you get the idea.

Ensoniq are well regarded for top class effects units.

funny thing is im shopping around for an asr-10...if i midi it all up couldnt i use the effects from that on my drums?

Wouldn't matter if you MIDI'd it up or not.

The FX are processed via audio cables and not MIDI.

ASR-10 has an input mode where you can use it's FX in "Pass Though".

IE: You can use the FX section on an ASR10 for processing incoming signals.

i wanna get my setup patched so i can use vst effects on the outputs of my mpc..

im gonna sell my mpc 60II with a mackie 1604vlz and buy a tascam dm24 and hook my mpc3k up to that..
*maybe*

The DM24 isn't that cool, it has a lot of cool features, but you need to select channels and stuff and you can't just reach out and grab what you need, it can be very confusing when you are grabbing an eq and you realize it wasn't for the right channel. lots of inputs though.

Well, if that's exactly what you're after, I guess there isn't much that is cooler. I just found navigating on a mixer to be somewhat antithetical to the concept of a mixer. Personally, I'd go analog with a digital converter box, but if you are after patch memories and such, I guess there isn't any way around it, perhaps a logic control and a rediculous soundcard? Probably run you the same if not more. You wanna let us know exactly what you are after?

so i could use an asr-10s effects unit on my 60 if i connect it into the asr?

basically all im after is the ability to put effects on each output of my mpc realtime.. so i figured with a digital mixer, i could do this, by plugging each output into its own input, then i could do whatever with that signal inside nuendo2..

i guess i could get a soundcard with enough I/O's like a delta1010 and do the same ?

it just seemed like itd be nice to be able to drop compression, eq, and whatever else onto certain sounds on the fly while im bangin on the mpc..
so i dont have to wait till its all tracked to add effects

You've got to factor in latency from the soundcard of your choice if you're gonna do this realtime. As I said above, I rely on Waves platinum bundle for fx and use them in a similar way EXCEPT I apply them after sequencing some decent stuff, not during a performance. If I did, the latency (although small these days) is still big enough to be a pain in the rectum cos you hit your pad for realtime input and the attack isn't sharp enough. Not a major problem - just hit bypass, but you lose the fx, albeit temporarily. But its not as initially satisfying as a hardware unit that doesn't have these latency issues.

The delta 1010 is a good machine for the in-out your talkin 'bout.

i have an M-audio audiophile 2496 card, on a fast pc.. its pretty good for handling effects on realtime MIDI sequencing, so as long as audio in isnt too much differant on the vst i think my computer will be able to handle it fine..

either the delta1010 or the motu828 im thinkin
