Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I have a 2000xl, SMPTE, 8 outs, 32MB, FX card.
About 2 years ago it started crashing, and each time it did it would erase some of the files on the ZIP disks. Partitions became unusable and I eventually transferred the sound and MIDI files to a CD for storage. I won't use the machine because I'm sure it will crash again. I get so frustrated because it burns up ZIP disks with important files. I did swap an old ZIP for a new one, and still the same crashing problem. I want to upgrade the storage system so I can move files from my computer to my MPC 2000xl, but how can I do that if MCD readers are no longer available? Also, if I am left with a ZIP drive for storage why should I keep this machine, despite the fact that I know how to use it the way I like to use it. Just a note. This crashing problem only became an issue after I first started using the internal FX. I bought the machine new and it came with the FX card but it was only after 6 years that I realized I actually had the FX card built in the machine. Any suggestions for repair? Should I just cut my losses sell the 2000xl and upgrade and re-do the MIDI on a more current MPC? Appreciate the advice.

that is not true, card readers are vastly available and cheap as dirt. Although I will say that if you want a very high end card reader that can take up to 16GB cards... check out scsi for samplers man because even though it aint the cheapest of the cheap it is still reasonable and you know it will work.

Mr. Debauch,

If I purchased from scusi for samplers, do you know someone who could instal it for me? I'm close to Montreal. Heck, I'd ship it anywhere if there was someone who could guarentee that it would work in my MPC. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken SCSIforsamplers offers the option for you to send your machine over for installation. However the installation is dead simple, and if you have ever installed a harddrive or a CD burner inside a computer you can do the MCD installation on the MPC aswell.

Thanks for the replies,
Yeah, seems like a good option to just purchase the CF-card reader and install it myself. Where can I find an MCD card reader kit? I'd like to compare it with the CF-Card reader.

If your mp is crashing buy new memory. Its like $20 off ebay....that solved my crashing problems.

You can install a card reader yourself, don't be scared...be careful.

If you want an ebay link for a card reader PM me.
