Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By SoEasyBaby Wed Sep 08, 2004 12:18 pm
Wassup yall..

I apologize if this is an ultra newbie question but...

I recentyly purchased a mpc 2000 used and I was as happy as a kid in a candy store.
I was even happier after I got it setup ....that I was able to find out how to sample .. pressing shift and the 4 key...

well for some reason when i turn my unit it on it will let me sample while other times it will say time too short and then i will try to turn my dial to set a sample time and it doesnt move it jus has dashes through it.. when i hit main screen to check my memory it says "0 megabytes installed" but meanwhile I was jus using and sampling with the mpc like a hour before or so....

I know usually when u go to sample it is supposed to say for the time at least 1 and u can change that to how you please...

I know I have the memory and I am just so confused/frustrated by this problem.. matterfact this is the second unit I have had that does this "on and off memeory thing"

I returned the first unit to get another one from the same seller and it still has the same problem.....

plz guys I hope u can help.. and I am sory if my explanation is a lil confusing..

gratefully,
E

I'm not an expert on these things, but it could be that the memory itself is fcked up.

Yes, it is definately something inside the MPC that is wrong, not that you yourself are doing anything wrong.

Is your MPC meant to have any extra RAM fitted because that could be not quite slotted in correctly...but it is strange it says 0 megabytes installed.......something is also messing with your basic factory amount of RAM.

Whenever it is working make sure you save everything as soon as you are even half happy with a sample or sequence.

Our man MPC3000 is the expert on the forum on these matters. I reckon you'll get some advice from him soon....

i am using the os from www.akaipro.com v 1.72

and what i am doing wiht that is.. copying the .exe and .sys file from the zip file directly to the floppy disk on the flooppy drive...

I am wondering is there a program I need to make boot disks or can i directly copy those 2 files like I have been doing to make the boot disc.

The mpc 2000 unit loads the way I have been doing it.

I'm tryin' to help but this might sound dumb. But are those Simms or Dimms? This one kid at work was explainin' the difference and he told me that dimms are mostly used in computers.(If i heard him right.)But to me those don't look like the standard simms used in the mpc.Where did you get them at?

By SoEasyBaby Wed Sep 08, 2004 9:51 pm
they came with the mpc maybe they're wrong shoudl io take a close photo.. how can you tell if they ar esimms or dimms and it wasnt sounding dumb.. i greatly appreciate ur effort to help

I think you need to be patient with this. I have noticed that on this forum a lot of the guys with the real technical knowledge go through all the recent posts over the weekend & give their advice then.

I've only looked inside my MPC2000 once & that was to fit the 8 outs board so I don't really know what is happening in there. However, I hope you took precautions over static & being earthed when you opened it.

If it gives you some hope, I think if your MPC was seriously f****d up the screen would not be able to say that no RAM is installed. That does mean that everything else is working.

yea i am patient

another guy had the same problem but he has 2 16s like i do ot mak e32 i might jus put the 1 16 in and go back to practicing and keep reviewing the boards and if need be go back in to add the other chip later.. but thnx again guys

all love fam, no disrespect...

but I think its mad funny when cats go to all the trouble of hitting the REPLY button, and all the trouble of typing, to essentially say "I dont know"

lol

its all love, but that sh*T is funny to me. Dont trip D.
