memory card size

ok, I know the recommended memory card size for the 500 is 2gig, but who is running 4gig? or is anyone running 8gig? im in need of a new card, and i would rather get a bigger one then 2gig, but im wondering how much slower the bigger cards are, or if I will risk **** up my mpc?

i wonder about that, too.
but: the manual states that only cards up to 2gb are supported.
so there's not really much of a point in getting one bigger than that, right?

I am running a 8 gig, works perfect.

At first i put it in and it was clunky, but I made it to the format screen and once it was formatted for the 500 it works great.

yo, thanks for the info!! an 8gig would be so much better than a 2gig.

Transcend UDMA 16GB works fine and fast with 1.31. As mentioned earlier, it has to be formated directly on the MPC, net capacity is 15GB.

There is no inherent speed difference between a 128mb and 32gb cf card from my experience. It just depends on the read/write speed. If you're really worried about it make sure you get a better class of write speed. I will admit my 32gb cf card writes a bit slow, but the write speed is pretty horrible on it. Just something I was willing to comprimise on at the time so I could get more storage.

WOW!!! 32 gig?! thats hella storage!! thanks so much for the info. I would have never known, as the manual says 2gig. so, when im ready to buy I will make sure to get a better read/write speed on my memory card.. thanks.

The 2gb CF card is all that Akai will support up to. If you have troubles you'll be on your own.

I would highly suggest buying from a retailer that has a generous return policy on the off chance that it isn't compatible with the MPC.

Yeah... 32gb is a lot of space, but I'm not sure it's really necessary either. I mean yeah it's cool to be able to carry around an insane number of samples, but it also promotes collecting clutter. On that card I have far more drum samples than is even sane, and have decided against having any loops all together. I may reverse that decision at some point, but really I need to go through and delete all of the samples I could care less for.

Don't let the big number fool ya... just make sure that you have a fast read/write speed and you'll be much happier.

Oh, and just thought I should mention... I'm only using about 16gb of space right now... so there is the slight possibility that it could blow up in my face.

lol, yea, i think im gonna go with an 8gig. im right there with you on the sample collecting. lol.. i gotta go threw and delete mine too.

Thought I'd add my 2pence to this just to add strength to the topic question. I just got a kingstone 4Gb s2 yesterday from eBay, formatted to the mpc500 and it works just great! Going to get a 16Gb next.

Hey dudes, what speed are your cards?
I'm upgrading soon and have done a bit of investigation. From what I've gathered from Mekishiko's post viewtopic.php?f=15&t=108588 anything faster than 133x is not using the full potential of the card and a waste of cash. But i could be reading that wrong ....
