Hi

Everything else on the unit (mpc 3000) works fine, but jog wheel does not respond at all.

I've opened up the unit, but all connections look secure enough. Vailixi OS is installed on the machine.

Before I end up sending the unit off to be repaired - anyone have any suggestions what I can check for ?

Thanks, Mark.

just to be 100% sure the wires connecting from the Data Knob encoder/pot are connected right!? If thats the case and all the other wires and connectors are snugly in place you might have a bad data encoder. do the + and - buttons function to change values up or down?

Wires seem secure, and yes, thankfully the + and - buttons do change the values. What with the courier costs Im trying to fix this without sending it off somewhere.
Thanks for the tip about the data encoder - maybe its that.

Yeah I am thinking its the data encoder needs to be replaced. I have seen other post's where that has gone bad. If you can do some soldering it would be a fairly easy part to replace. I just dont know who would sell it. Try emailing Bruce Forat or one of the other MPC parts supply stores and someone might have one they can sell. If u have yours open can you read any part number or manufacturer names on the encoder/pot?

From the parts breakout in the Service Manual it has a part number:
(38) ES 414627J <SW ROTARY EC24B50D0>

Might also be able to buy it direct from AKAI but i have never tried that before.

ok will look into this - Im not too good at soldering so may end up sending it off to be repaired. If it was something else other than an mpc 3000 I'd probably give it a shot.
