Well new used one off ebay. I've just installed jjos 3.12 and have a couple of questions.
Is there a way to toggle in and out of record mode while a sequence is playing? Also down the road i would like to get a small one or two octave keyboard controller for the MPC when I'm on the road. Any recomendations? THX

there are plenty available, which one is best for you that's something only yourself can answer. i'd say hit up your local music store and play around with them

Got the record in/out thing figured out and also can do this with a foot switch(Very happy as this is not possible on my Motif xs). I think I'll go with the Akai LPK25 for a portable controller. Anyone use this? Any advice on a good usb to midi cable? THX

That wont work, there´s no "usb to midi cable", it´s always an interface requiring a driver. Without a pc/mac you´ll need a keyboard with midi out. Can´t recommend any but whatever you get don´t buy akai, shitty quality/support.

A lot of midi controllers only seem to talk via USB these days and have no MIDI ports.

I recently got an Edirol PCR-300 keyboard controller, which has good ol' MIDI in/out and USB, and has a MIDI interface onboard, so allows a computer connected via USB to talk to other gear connected via the MIDI ports. Which is nice.
