Can Anybody Help With This Little Problem??? Please

Sup MPC family,

I have been at this for the past 2 hours or so and im still not getting any where. lol

the problem is: I have my mpc 1000 slaved to Logic 9... i hit record on Logic and the MPC picks it up and they start playing together... problem is Logic is not picking up any of the audio coming out of the MPC.. i know it is probably something so small and simple but i cannot get my head around it...

does anyone know anything to help me with this please.

i assume you're also using audio cables and not attempting the impossible by trying to send audio through MIDI here, correct?

i only ask because you're leaving out the important details that we could help you with... which is how your audio connections are running into your pc and the LOGIC audio settings...

Are you familiar with recording into Logic? Make sure you have a track armed for recording, or else you may not hear any sound coming through.

i had it once set up with cubase but since then moved on to mac and Logic so now kinda stumpted.. lol

so i got the Imac and M-Audio Profire 610 and MPC1000....

I have the stereo outs of the MPC plugged into the line inputs on the Profire 610... i then have on the MPC midi in 1 and set that to slace via mode + pad9

then on the Profire 610 i have that midi cable going into the midi out bit... (got this info from akai website)

on hitting record in logic all goes smooth they running in sync etc etc... but not picking up the audio..

y'all probably gonna burn me cause im prob doing some dumb shit.. lol. all good though.. im prepared as long as it helps too..

the connections sound fine... must just be a setting in Logic that you need to find in order to enable the sound coming in... unfortunately, i don't use logic, so i'm of no use there... check out your recording settings... can't be too hard i'm sure...

when you say this you mean that the little "R" is lit up red yeah.. cause i got that part... still not luck.

No audio coming through to Logic could be caused by a number of things, Im using Logic Pro 8.

I suppose you have to start by checking that the audio is actually leaving the MPC via the main outs and the headphones.

If it is thats great, no MPC issues involved. If not make sure your audio is being routed correctly and that the internal mixer levels are where you need them to be.

Next suspect would be your audio interface. Connect the MPC main outs to the Pro Fires mic/ line inputs 1+2 which are on the front panel. Use a pair of headphones to check that an audio signal is present in standalone mode. Obviously you'd want to also check that the Pro Fire is correctly set up and functioning in tandem with your Mac (ie sending and receiving audio and midi).

If all is correct with the audio interface, you'll now have to go through the audio settings of your Mac and within Logic itself.

If you go into PREFERENCES...> SOUND...> INPUT you should see your audio interface in the list of available sources, the same should also be true of the PREFERENCES...> SOUND...> OUTPUT section. If your audio interface is not listed you need to remedy this as it means the audio interface is not correctly setup or installed. Refer to to the manual or manufacturers website/ forum for installation instructions, sometimes setup is done differently on Mac computers.

In Logic check that you are actually using a stereo audio track and that you have selected the correct audio inputs of your audio interface for recording in the Channel Strip on the left. With stereo tracks your options will normally be 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 and so on. At the bottom of the channel strip there are two buttons. One is "I" for input monitoring, the other is "R" for Record Ready. Light them both, the Record Ready light will be flashing while the Input Monitoring light will be be lit orange.

If an audio signal is present on the channel you will see movement in the level meters whenever Input Monitoring is active (orange light on).

Without actually being there, thats the best advice I can offer.

thanks man... all the info you provided was spot on for me man... this part in particular. this is where i was going wrong.

i have the MPC plugged into the Line inputs 3+4 on the Pro610... so when i created audio tracks in Logic i was just clicking create without actually reading what it says (lol) and it was creating the tracks on line inputs 1+2....

it was that simple yet i didnt clock onto it. dam man
