I'm digging your topics Grub. I too like tearing things apart to see how they work and make them better. I'm done with my 2000XL mods though I got some smaller mods to do on it but that's for later on. I have been working lately on my MV8000 by removing the floppy drive and trying to get the card reader and the HD to play nice together. As of now, it's been one or the other I got to work but not both working at the same time.
I haven't gave up and accepted failure yet!

oh, no no.... the $0.99 cents is what the CF card reader/adapter costed to buy (including shipping)

basically I removed the mechanism from the floppy drive and places the card reader like in that pic that was posted. Then the back end of the drive I used some of the random metal shit from the guts of the floppy drive to make it level and even inside the "case" and used tape so it wouldn't short anything since the guts were metal. then I used some more tape to fasten it down and it was all good. it was solid, and I realized after a while of having the card reader installed that I never even needed to take the card out and I had a 1 gig I think.... which is more then plenty. I didn't transfer things from the computer anyways because it is a sampler... and also cause my computer doesn't have a turntable built into it.

So about 3-4 years ago this great ide/atapi drive came out for the mpc it was an SD/CF combination.. then about 3 years into its lifetime with me, it failed to read on the mpc anymore.. so I had to break down and buy one of them cf readers from mpc stuff as I didn't do much research and needed a quick fix as this was messing with my work production ..

now there is a few questions I would like to ask in theory..

say I put a 2.5 HDD in this box and get a converter for the pins-- could the power from the mpc be enough to turn it on--(as Grub has done) would I have to add a killswitch per se for the HDD(to save its shelf(mpc)life????would the mpc recognize it? could it use all of its space?

Now my second question is, the mpc just stopped recognizing it, I can hook it up and see if it powers, now if it does, what would cause the mpc to stop recognizing it in the first place? I jiggled the cord, took it out, made sure everything was plugged in right.. Could it be a fuse? nothing on the board looks burnt or damaged..

Is your card reader 50 pin? or is it involving a 50 to 40 bridge adapter inline.

The MPC has both 5v and 12 v leads off the motherboard, each with its own ground... so essentially, you can power whatever you want.

If it spins a 68pin hard drive, im assuming it has enough juice to power just about whatever you choose.

Is that the PCMCIAto CF model? or is that the dank new new.

My biggest thing is, I have way too many flopppys around... I either need to just go one external CF, or I need to have CFs in all of my ish.

I would Ideally be able to save a sound on the eps16+ and immediately jump the sound to my ASR... or just be able to use chicken.sys on my pc.. back up banks, songs...


dunno... the only reason for my lack of Ensoniq use EVER, is storage after im done.
