MPC-2000 Zip Drive. Thinking about trying to go internal...

Hey Alls. I've bought about 10 thrift store iomega zip drives, 100s and 250s, and none really work. Last night the best I could do was get it to save and load a sound, but it went to freeze village when I attempted to save or load any sequences, songs or programs. Really at this point I'm thinking about an internal zip, but they seem to dominate the XLs more than the 2gs. Is it possible to get an internal kit? Or am I missing something in my earlier attempts? I've used zips with different 2000s for years, is it possible that its my machine? you guys are legit. thanks for helping me make some music.

i got an internal 250mb zip because my external zip was doing the exact same thing - i would load a disc and then it would just freeze. after a while it just wouldnt work. i thought to just get a new one, but it was about time to get something internal. i was sick of carrying the external unit around w/ the ac adapter etc... found one for a fairly good price ($65-70) through scsiforsamplers.com. the guy gave me instructions and really great support. no soldering required.
1st off what MPC are you using? i have an XL so, might be different for 2000.

It is.

The XL has internal interfaces.
The Classic doesn't.

that includes scsi also, doesn't it? or does the classic have internal scsi?

I wanted to make a update to my post earlier about the MPC2000 Install Kit and using it to install an Iomega internal SCSI 100MB zip drive. There is a problem and while it doesn't have anything to do with our kit - that works fine - it will make installing a zip drive practically impossible.

The problem is that the zip drive is a little more than 1/2" longer than a floppy or card reader drive and there is a board in the MPC2000 that it will butt up against when you try to slide it all the way into the sampler. If you don't mind the zip drive sticking out the front of your MPC2000 Classic about 1/2" inch, you are good but I don't think most folks would go for that.

So I wanted to clarify my earlier statement and reiterate that our kit works great with the MPC2000 but fitting a zip drive inside the case is very tough, if not impossible. I apologize if I gave the impression that putting a zip drive inside your MPC2000 Classic is easy - while it technically is possible, it would not be easy at all. It appears that at this time, the only internal drive option remains a card reader and that installation is very easy.
