Opinions on the MPC-EB16-CARD Effects Card

I have a couple of these cards and was wondering what you guys think about them. Are they worth having in your MPC? Seems to me like most folks add effects outside the sampler and so these cards probably are not that worthwhile but after playing around with one for a while, it really does seem to have some powerful effects capabilities.

You guys who have them in your XLs - do you use them a lot? And you guys who don't have them - is it something you lust after?

Id use it if I had it, but I have a card reader right where the EB-16 goes. so I really don't care.

I have heard that you can't route the effects out the individual outs? is that true?

Poor in my opinion, especially for the price.

yeah the price is there because of it being proprietary to only a few machines.... not because of the amazing quality.


it may not be great but it definitely adds an angle to the mpc. honestly the reverb is shit IMO... and the distortion is not very good either but amusing.

The delay is also ropey, so what you're left with is very bog standard effects board.

I am curious to know the answer to the 8 outs routing thing mentioned above.

Some of the crappiest effects out there.

In my opinion it is worth it.

Okay I admit it is not that good as an outboard effect or else

BUT

it makes my MP an All-In-One solution.
The effects are nice to have on the fly (if not to use them in your mix then just to roughly see what it would be like)

Then the sound of the flters turns me on

The price for it is yet to high

I am getting to know how to use it day by day
and has made me believe that once you get to know it really well then it will be amazing.

I think I wouldnt buy it seperatly cause of it's price
but since I got it already in my MP when I bought it it's price was smaller in the end


But if someone is looking for some real effects I wouldnt suggest it that much

Don't kid yourself... It's nice to have a complete mpc, but that's where the positives end with Akai effects.

Routing effects to individuals is 5k only.
The effects on the EB are fine they just have a few real drawbacks:
-presets are no good
-amount of control in some is arkward
-should have been standard
-don't like for you to be heavy handed
-require that you be willing to put in some work to get good results

You have to remember that way, way back when the 2k was first released there were not the one million and one cost effective ways to add effects like you have now.
I have had a 2k and (2) XL's and always had them loaded with all the options because it was always easier to get the drums sounding good with a little EQ, delay, or verb from the EB.
Again that was when the units were new and fewer options were available.

I see these boards going for anywhere from $175.00 to $335.00 and I was curious if you guys feel they are worth those prices.

We also have a couple of 8-out boards and MPC floppy drives. Also an LCD screen for an MPC2000XL that is in perfect condition - no missing pixels or lines.

Anything above $75 is too much.
From that point you get into used LXP's and then the DP2 at the $150 mark.

The price you are selling at is just about wright for me...
$150 is ok...

The average 2k/2kxl user isn't going to pay more than $75 simply because they have too many options available to put value in the EB.
Plain and simple.

Because he aint gona pay it it doesnt mean it is worthless...

And still their price is approx. at 150...

noone is selling at below 80 or 100+

Only chance to get it at 80 is as part of a sampler
