recording midi

i dont know if i have the right connection somewhere but this is how i have it. mpc2000xl out to 002 rack in. mpc in to 002 rack out. mpc out to motif rack in. motif thru to m-audio controller. i sync my mpc with pro tools and i record both audio and midi during the session but when i try to put it on a disk all i get is audio. why?

What disk are you putting what data on? MPC or ProTools?

If it is the MPC you are refering to, are you sure you are not just saving samples & program data but forgetting to save sequences & songs?

If you are getting midi data into ProTools but just not saving it you might be making a similar error there. With my Logic system a song is saved in two separate places......in fact on two sepearate internal hard drives. Samples are all in one place & all the arrangement, midi, mixer & plug-ins in another.

well midi wise on the mpc-make sure you are programming both those midi outs. A and B -they will play insync, and if you save the info, it should be there. Try keeping midi and audio separate, so keep it easy on your brain.

I like keeping tracks 1-8 audio and 9 up for midi. just group them so you don'tget the tracks mixed up. make sure the audio from the midi is patched and assigned to channels on your mixing board.

make sure your midi modules are hookt up on the right midi channels-your mpce will fire those triggers-but if the midi equipment is not set to the proper channel, they will not playback.

your audio gear can be connected to where you can play keys on your keyboard, and yes you hear audio-but it will not respond to the midi messages if the channels are not assigned.

also, check what mode your in on the motif, and on the protools checkout your midi message receive to make sure those channel correspond.
