usb port...

how come the front usb port will power a zip and be able to read it and not a floppy? And while we're at it, what's the frikkin deal with aksys and the mac? I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled on both mac and PC and no dice...Ideally, the mac is priority...

Any advice?

Probably incompatibility issues with the ext. floppy drive. Meaning the floppy drive may be usb 2.0 compliant, but the 4k is only 1.1 I think.

Now the issue with the comp may stem from a missing driver or loader. I know that was the case with me until I gathered all neccessary drivers and loaded them up.

It also could be a damaged usb host port too on the 4k.

Well dab, the usb port in the rear registers the mpc in the pc as a mass storage and the front usb port can read my usb powered zip so none of the ports are malfunctioning as far as I can tell...

Usb 1.1??? Really? Even with the usb upgrade from the akai page? So do I get a usb 1.1 floppy drive & try that? Wut aboot ak.sys on the mac?

Yep, it's 1.1 and it's based on hardware rather than trying to do a firmware upgrade (though I wish it were that easy).

Regardless of it being 1.1, 2.0 should also work too except it won't operate as fast 'cause of the limitations based on 1.1.

Now I'll have to let someone who deals with this from a mac standpoint chime in and give you the 411 on ak.sys.
