Mpc 60 vs Mpc 4000

Assuming that you could only own one of these two mpcs for the rest of your life. Which would you pick and why?

4k, because of its compatibility with newer technology.

It's the only hi rez mpc out there.

And it's still a beast 'til this day.

^^I agree with Dab. I just sold my MPC60 and picked up a MPC4000. No comparison. The MPC4000 gives you the latest technology overall and it's a SICK MACHINE!!!

4000 because it can handle 512 of ram and when you are too lazy to save and start a new project file you can just add on to the end of the current song untill you run out of ram.

Could you explain in detail what you mean by this? Don't get me wrong, I didn't want any potential buyers to be mislead by improper representation.

Plus, are you still working on your call-out tune?

That's not even a realistic comparison.
It's like asking if you were going to start a record label with one artist who would you rather have Jay Z or Terrence Howard as Dee from Hustle and Flow.

I'd have to disagree. It would just be like choosing between two dope MC's. One with ol school flavor and one with newschool technical delivery and precision.

I would only cop a 60 for it's historical value.
For a workhorse I'd definitely go for the 4000.
Unless I want to go completely oldschool to sequence my s950 or if I had another powerhouse sampler like the s6000.

The 60 is very much like the SP, it's nostalgic and still works within minimalistic applications.
However both always required a something else to do the heavy lifting.
Sometimes it's hard for people to understand now because they get the old gear because of who used it or trying to say they are old school, but believe me back in the late 80's that wasn't how we felt.
We had a lot less to work with and dealers were killing us even at that.
Do you realize that even when the SP1200 had been around for a couple of years they were still getting $1200+ for SP12's? Without the 5 1/4 floppy.

Those days taught you a lot about making do with what you could get your hands on, but also taught you how unimportant a single piece of gear really is in the grand scheme of things.
Both my 60's are long gone as are the 2- SP12 turbos and 3-SP1200's, MPC3000 and 2 keyboard ASR's.
At some point you realize just how impractical that stuff becomes.

Don't get me wrong the gear never stopped doing what it was supposed to do but it got to the point it was more for show than use.
Since we are now living in the MixTape era, churning out beats and tracking vocals is more important than your gear list.

well what i mean is, you make a track.. then you are done with that and instead of starting an entire new project you can just start the new one at the end of the first track in the same project. later on after you filled your sample time you have a pile of available samples to play live with out the need to load anything else up.

basically... the 4k has a lot of ram, why not fill that shit up.

the call out track I did is what it is... what exactly was I supposed to do again?

I think what you're saying is a good lesson to some of the kids on here who think they need old gear to make beats.
