Filter settings for accentuating the bass of a sample...

Hey, (1) I wanted to know whether someone knows the specific filter settings in the MPC2000 that would help me isolate the bass sound of a sample and hide(or nearly hide) everything else. I was working with a producer who has a Korg Triton workstation, and he was able to do it very effortlessly using the same sample that I was. (2) I am using a Roland XP-30 keyboard along with the MPC2000 and I want to be able to play the sounds in the MPC through the keyboard, so that I have the whole set of keys to work with instead of just 16 pads at a time. just filter down on the params screen until all you hear is the bass. the filter is a low pass filter, so the lower you go the less highs, then mids will pass through. it really just depends on the sample though.

Exactly... just jog it up and down until it sounds right.... expierementing is really the only way.

I tried this with every sample i used, then just ended up creating my own bassline. Does this ever REALLY work?? What would you have to do? Filter it down, then when you hear a little bass, you lay the same sample over eachother, a couple times?

well the sample you are using has to have some low end in it. otherwise you are going to filter it down to nothing. basically if the sample doesnt have some bass, you can't filter it down to just the bass. find some organ samples or stuff like that. sometimes it sounds good.
