How do I use (2-16)A-Device(02-16) ????

I have a MIDI out assigned to a sound module which works wonderfully, its assigned to S: MIDI : 1A-Device01

The thing is, I want to add different MIDI instruments... how can I assign the other 15 MIDI tracks to different MIDI instruments?

Do I need 15 different sound modules? Is the MPC2000XL limited to only 2 sound module's since it only has 2 MIDI out's?

Any help is appreciated

On your sound module there is somewhere where it says Ch:01 (Channel 01)
SO you have already placed one instrument there

Now you go to the MPC
go to a new track on the same sequence and turn the jog wheel so it says

S: MIDI : 2A-Device02 or something like that

Now you are using/triggering the second channel from your sound module

For MIDI A you can do that for up to 16 different instruments from your sound module
Need more go to MIDI B

I understand the part so far, I've been trying that and been playing with my sound module, but it only seems to want to play 1 channel.

How can I activate the other channels on the sound module? Whenever I change to MIDI: 2A-Device02 or higher nothing happens

check your module is set to respond to omni....i'd bet its receive channel is set to 1

Most midi modules will have what is called multi-timbral mode. This is where they receive on different incoming midi channels and play different patches on each channel. I didn't see where you told us what make and model your external module was but I'm betting that it supports multi-timbral mode. Look that up in the manual and see how to enable it. Most of them will let you set which channels are recceiving and which are turned off to incoming midi data, as well as things like how many voices are allocated to each channel and other important settings.

If it aint multi-timbral, then you'd need another cord going from the midi-thru on your sound module, to another sound module, which is set to receive on another channel.

Each sound you want to control separately needs to be on it's own midi channel.

How you do this in each module depends completely on the module.
