Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I have just gone from MPC2500 to MPC4000, I was able to load all the samples from the MPC2k5 to the 4k without a problem, I also saved all the 2k5 sequeces ans MIDI files and loaded them on to the 4k then assigned the correct programs to the tracks and it all working.
I have also noticed having both machines in the studio, that the MPC4k has a much better dynamic range and more bass responce than the MPC2k5.
The MPC4k just sounds fatter. :D

I haven't tried that yet (kinda stupid i know haha)
but it makes a lot of sense. The only thing missing then is the multi in the save directory of 2500 song..

I'll try this too this weekend, see exactly what you'll have to do to make a 2500 song work on 4K.

One.

People were talking about loading Programs not samples.
They were trying to avoid doing exactly what you had to do, recreate the PGM.

I think you have to recreate the programs on the 4k unless you have some file converter, by the time you have converted the 2k5 program to something the 4k can read, you might be more than half way to recreating the program. Anyway the envlope settings are different on the 4k so are the filter settings, recreating the programs will probably give you the best results.

Well if you are using an Akai 2500 then you could use BlueBox or Translator and quickly change them to 2kxl easiere than rebuilding.
If it's JJ OS 2500 then it's not the same since he changed and added things that don't translate.
FWIW I just keep it moving.
None of my MPC programs from any MPC have every really ended up being useful in another MPC.
I have owned every MPC (multiples on some) and never found migrating the samples to be worth doing.
-(except the 2500 and 1k on JJ)-
Always seemed like a good way to put yourself in a drum rut.
It really easy to use something like MPCEditor or BlueBox to audition drums and start readible banks.

Being able to load a folder into a new program on the 5k is also a fast way to build drum programs.
