mpc1k & MIDI question

Ive had my mpc for 9 months now and have read the manual front and back numerous times. The problem im having is that I can figure out how to keep a midi sound for that track.. ex I play my keys on my keyboard and sequence on the 1k. I have a piano melody using track one on the 1k. Lets say I hear a different sound I like on my keyboard and try to put it on track 2 with my 1k, the piano melody on track 1 changes to the sound I have on track 2. How can I keep track 1 a piano, while track 2 is something else? Any help will greatly be appriciated.

If I’m reading this correctly….That entirely depends upon your keyboard. If it has the ability to assign different voices to different midi channels then you can do what you want. Most non-professional kit won’t do this. For instance, if you were using a nord modular rack you could do this - if you were using a nord micro-modular you couldn’t do this.

Depends on your keyboard (sound unit). I use an Access Virus C with no prob. The MPC cant change the sound on your sound unit, if u dont send sysex info. Is you keyboard multitimbral? And do u put it in multimode? U shouldnt read the MPC manual for this issue, but your keyboard-manual.
