so i am a noob to the MPC, and upon finding an incredible deal on a 5000 i drove to ATL to pick it up. But here is my problem, after plugging in the USB to my MacBook and sorting through hours of samples this guy had on here, finding the ones i wanted to keep, and then sorting them all into according folders i deleted everything i didn't want and exited properly and disconnected my USB. Well when i powered back on my MPC it would no longer let me access the samples i have played before, giving me a reading saying, " Bad dotdot Directory" and i can not get into ANY folders. also now on my Flash card it wont play half the samples saying, "invalid Format" to files i am SURE i have played before through this MPC. I have had it for a little over a month or two and just now got to sorting through his samples, i was done playing with it and am now onto some serious production but just hit a major bump. PLEASE HELP!

p.s. this is my first post so sorry if it is in the wrong catagory or something

you should be using your own samples anyway, ... unless you will never be better than the guy you bought it from, ... if he will always be better than you, then you should definitely use his samples.

however, if you have them or can save them on your mac book, ... just re-install OS 2.0 on the mpc and re-load the samples, ... read the 2.0 manual that will tell you specifically how to save the files you want.

for the most part you should be just fine. you have to make/find your own samples anyway.

(although i understand if he has/had any great keygrouped programs)
its just the drum sounds that i absolutely would not be able to sleep at night if i had anything from anyone else ever on my machine.

i agree, i have plenty of my own samples, i am somewhat of a vinyl junkie and have spent my fare share digging in small town record shops. again, i deleted many of the samples on there and kept probably less than half, none of which he even recorded, i think just purchased percussion and sound effects... but are you saying i should just pull everything from the hard-drive and flash card onto my computer desktop and the wipe the mpc clean and re-install the OS and then transfer the files back onto the mpc? sounds easy enough, i will try it! thank you for your help, i will let you know how it goes! :D

okay, so i got to doing what i said i was going to do and it worked perfectly. took quite a while to transfer the files back and forth but i just removed them from the mpc to another temporary storage spot, re-installed the OS and then dropped the samples back on and everything works as it should. easy fix. thanks for the suggestion!
