Just something about them that always made me want to listen to something else.
To me some monitors just work better for production than others.
If you hear things the way you need to during production there's a lot less to deal with during the mix.
Doesn't mean the speaker doesn't have to be good to mix on just means you will spend more time working on the mix.
One thing people overlook when they talk about the Dynas' is that they actually are aligned to the Mackie HR series price wise so they really aren't as expensive as people tend to think.
Just seems that the KRK's, Yamaha's, JBL's and even the MAudios price has made them more appealing to the budget minded.
People typically love the HS80's but to me they are just like the KRK's and require the sub to sound correct.
Not sure why Yamaha hasn't addressed the complaints about hiss, maybe all of them don't do it?
As far as the KRK's go here's some things to understand;
-They are usually considered too loud by most users.
-The best way to get a good/proper balance in the bass is to add the sub.
If you use the proper test tone to set them up with the sub you will notice a major difference because the controls to get it right are actually on the sub.
Without the sub you increase the hi output and and adjust the overall output setting on the back of the cabinet to try and make the bass.
Still can be bass heavy in an untreated room.
-If you add a sub you will find that the 5 or 6 with the sub may have worked as well.
-Once you have them set up with the sub you will want to use a foot switch so you can turn the sub off and on. It allows you to have to setups in one because you can compare the near fullrange sound to the nearfield + sub sound instantly.
