Workflow with an MPC and a Synth

Whats up, I'm about to buy my first synth and I'm just curious about how people have incorporated a synth or keyboard into their work process with the MP.

I'm thinking I'll midi up the synth to my MPC, but one of the synths I'm looking at might have really shitty midi implementation so that might not be an option.

Do you guys think midi is totally necessary when you use a synth and mpc?

I'm thinking it might be tedious to have to sample the keys into audacity or the MPC, then chop and replay everything (because I like to keep all the sounds in the box).

How else can you use a synth and MPC together?

Any input is greatly appreciated, I'm not very experienced with keyboards or gear in general.

Of course it's necessary, especially if you don't want your personal masterpiece to sound (I guess this is what some around here call it)...WACK!

Dude, you ain't got nothing to fear or any right to believe the nonsense that's still floating around about syncing gear.

Actually, there's nothing to it. The machine does all of the timing and syncing for you. All you gots to do is show it what you want and it takes over from there.

That's why katz be falling in love with these joints because they're loyal to their masters.

yo dab, i tottaly get where you comming from as you play keys and probly mostly make keyboard beats. but someone like me, who is mainly sample based, owns a motif xs6 and never uses the thing..........and has moved on to doing everything inside the mpc - i dont think its 100% neccesary to midi a synth up.

now if you making synth/keyboard beats, it probably makes sense to midi the shit up. but if you using like an occasional synth sound, like just for basslines, or random sprinkles, then no, id say sample that into the mpc!

I sampled my favorite motif patches into the mpc, created chromatic/keymapped pgm and now only use that. I never break out the motif.

but like i said, im only using the motif for a couple of its patches, totally wasted my $$. I only ever needed a synth for thos sub bass patches, and i probably could have scoured the internet for that anyways.

so i guess, my point is, it depends on type of beats you making and how much you using your keyboard. but like dab said, it aint really that hard to midi sync.

Back when I had a microkorg and a xl I use to sample the smaller less intricate sounds to the mp and use midi to lay down the melody or whatever. Always worked for me.

Cyrus, I def can't argue with you about that g. I have to honestly agree with what you just said.

midi can do neat things that are more difficult to do by hand.

Why not midi it up properly and employ the resampling technique when needed. Just learn the proper way to do midi sysex dumps for easy recall. I have the mopho and I do it both ways. midi and sequence, resample to free up the midi channel and add new patch if needed.
