sampling

How do I mute out certain unwanted (snare, drums, etc) when sampling?
I'm sampling off of a table and a mixer, do I just need a better mixer?

a low pass filter set to sixty or forty would eliminate highs like snares and hats, they will still be there but not as noticable when u layer ur drums over top of the sample

Don't record sections that have those parts playing?

yeah... i'm sure a better mixer will grant you access to the original master recordings...

Or ask for the original studio tapes...

aint no good way to go about it. eqing on mixer or filtering in mpc can help......but of course depends on the sample. you might kill other sounds along the way. sometimes its good, sometimes its not. other tricks can be to sample in stereo and if sounds are panned either left or right, you can remove the l/r channel with unwanted sounds. or chop where major unwanted sounds occur and adjust start points so they less noticeable.
